Nigger?

Maybe Im just asking for some black KKK type person to come to my house and firebomb me, but still… I feel the need to say this, and so it shall be said.

There was a post on nova about the word “nigger” and stuff…
Heres a few choice things Im quoting. First, the authors post:

I feel that when people saw the “N” word it directly offeneds me especially if u are white. Several of my friends have been called the “N” word, and just recenly one of my white friends said the “N” word. Though I knew she wasnt trying to be mean, and harmful, you just cant say things liek that! This is a word that too many people try to use and be cool. I dont feel white people should use the word, IF only for the fact that you dont know who could be listening, and you wouldnty want people thinking you were racist when you werent. The “N” word is VERY common in the black/urban language, but jus because you are associated and love the culture, doesnt mean you own owner ship to da big fat “N” WORD!

A reply I made:

I think its really hypocritical for black people to say that its okay for THEM to say nigger, but its NOT okay for other people (white, hispanic, asian, etc.) to say it…
In a way, its kind of like black people bitching that they dont want to be discriminated against… well, dont use the word then! Or, dont pitch a bitch when WE use it… after all, were all about equal rights and equal opportunity, right? In that case, if one person can say nigger, then they can ALL say nigger. Otherwise were not being fair or equal, and we wouldnt want that, now would we?

A reply to my reply:

I just dont get why some of you people dont understand this:
Why are black people allowed to call white people names about their skin color, and then if a white person calls a black person a name about their skin color, we all get shitted on?

And finally, my last reply to that:

Because, unfortunately, there are some black people out there who feel that having equal rights and equal opportunity isnt enough. It doesnt matter that it was their ANCESTORS (not them) that were discriminated against, and it doesnt matter that it was OUR ancestors (not us) were the ones doing the discriminating. They feel the need to take it a step further and claim things just for themselves. In reality, all that does is take racism and elevate it- just in different ways.

You can call me racist, hell, feel free to. It really doesnt bother me, because I know that Im not racist. I treat black people the same way I treat white people. I have white friends. I have black friends. I hate certain white people (for the person they are, not their skin color). I hate certain black people (for the person they are, not their color). Speaking my mind on an issue that I feel needs to be addressed does not make me racist.

Eh, so theres my two cents for tonight. Go say hi to Shi, Sierra, and Kristin. And of course, my daily favs: Tess, Miggs, Sarah, Sarah, and Nikki.

I agree. If the word is such a hurtful and discriminating thing when a white person says it in the same context as a black person, then black people should stop using the word too, period. Dont promote it, and it makes me wonder who the real racist ones are in the situation, saying that one race cant use a word even if the context is the same.. just because of skin color. I wish the need for “special” rights would stop.. and I think the word should be okay for all or not okay for all races. There are so many other issues besides the word nigger though… like the disrespect of women in hip hop and rap videos.

I agree with you Jenn. I have heard it said that only minorities can be discriminated against. That is a load of crap. I think that all races have probably experienced racism at some point and time. Some black people are too caught up in feeling sorry for themselves to see this. I am not racist but I am tired of all of the whining

Cissy, on December 12 2002 at 11:12am:

Once upon a time at a pool in Alabama a bunch of white kids pushed a little black girl into the water even though we all knew she couldnt swim. They were saying they wanted to see if the “little black nigger rat could swim.” I was there to help her to the ladder and comforted her as she cried. The n-word is not something that should be taken lightly by anyone (so I agree with you there). But I can see how some black people might find it acceptable for them to say it. I cannot however see how anyone else saying it has any justification. Its like the word “slut” or “fat” for example. I could go around saying “Im such a slut arent I?” or “gosh Im so fat” but it means a whole other something when some random person goes up to you and says “youre a slut” or “youre fat.” Thats what I think anyways.

Dan, on December 12 2002 at 11:12am:

Well then, its your responsibility to not use the word in ways that could be miscommunicated. If you have your own definition of the word, dont expect to use it around everyone else and not have them treat it differently than you mean.

Juliet, on December 12 2002 at 4:12am:

LOL, white people INVENTED the damn word. Where did this shock value come from anyways?

zlo, on December 12 2002 at 9:12am:

i am not black so i dont know exactly why black people are offended by the N word if its coming from a white person but i think its the same if someone calls your mother a BITCH. YOU can say that you hate your mom and that she is a fucking queen of BITCHES from time to time but if someone else does it you would probably well you know what.

Jenn As the domain name suggests, my name is Jenn, and I own this blog. I'm 26 years old and married to my one true ♥, Daniel. And while I have two kids (Alyssa is five, and Ryan is three), you won't find "mommy" in my username or email address, nor does my blog revolve around them. I'm a mother, but most importantly I am me, with a passion for love, blogging, reading, and photography. I'm also a busy freelance writer, web designer & SEO goddess, and a blogger relations person for an adult toy company.
