Subtract a cat.

I’m now down to just one cat…Blueboy:

Early yesterday afternoon I decided to give Toby another bath (just water and cat shampoo for sensitive skin this time, as I don’t want to overdue it with the flea killing shampoo), and it was then that I realized just how bad off he was. Besides the fact that a day after a flea bath, flea collar and a bombing of the house he was still infested with fleas (I saw about twenty drop off of him during the bath, and there were more in his fur and crawling around his face and even into his ears :yuck:), I could see that their bites and debris were really irritating his skin: irritating him to the point where he had open, oozing sores. :whimper: I realized that we could not really afford to continue treating him for fleas (as bad as he had them), and more so, we couldn’t really afford to take him to a vet for treatment for his skin. :ack:
I decided to take him to the humane league. They have the staff and resources to really treat him as well as do something about the skin irritation. I miss him a lot, but I know they can take much better care of him than I can. It would have been cruel of me to just keep him and to continue treating him for fleas without treating his irritated skin. :cat2: Toby, I hope you get fixed up and into a new, loving home soon!
Speaking of the humane league, I see that Mulder has been adopted. I’m happy for him, and I hope he does better for his newer owner than he did for me. Perhaps just the change of environment/people will be enough to keep his spiteful ass in line.

Blueboy: He’s doing very well. He’s only scratching a little bit, and thanks to the flea collar any remaining fleas are contained to his head. Since I obviously can’t apply sprays/ointments to his head, I’ve resorted to cutting off as much fur off of his head/face as I can (I told the groomer not to bother with the traditional lion’s cut and just shave him down, but as you can see from the pictures they didn’t listen :irked:), and using a flea comb (whoever designed that needs some sort of award!) dipped in hot water and dish soap to comb out any fleas/flea eggs. I got smart and stuffed cotton balls into his ears (not too far, just enough to “cover” the openings) before starting this so the little fuckers can’t run into his ears to get away. :blah: I swear, before fleas I never knew insects could be so damned smart and have such instincts for survival! :wtf: I did this twice yesterday and three times today, and needless to say, each time I comb out less and less fleas/eggs. Last night I combed out six fleas, tonight I only combed out two. Yay! :bounce:

Baby gifts: Thank you very much to Carrie for pink crib sheet. Once I get a crib (sometime in December, hopefully) we’ll have Alyssa’s first crib sheet! Oh, and Kine, thank you very much for the Avent breastmilk containers. I have some extra Avent nipples, so now I can just store the breast milk in those containers and pop nipples in rather than switching between the other containers to the bottles, etc.

:hop: Oh! I also received packages from Shannon and Kasie. And both on the same day, too! That was nice. :) Thank you both so much!

From Shannon: breast milk storage bags, samples, a pacifier, two books, a cute outfit, and a card.

From Kasie: A Winnie the Pooh gift set (containing onesie, bib, booties), a Winnie the Pooh sleeper, bib, booties, and a card.

I’m telling you, Alyssa is already one spoiled little girl.

Aww, I wish I had the password too, avid reader even though I don’t comment, ;)

Anyway, I’m so sorry about Toby. At least you can surround Blueboy with all of your love. Alyssa is a lucky little girl, ;) I really hope she isn’t allergic to the cats, I know that would be awful for you, being such a cat lover.

Anyway, hope you’re enjoying being a mother, and hope Alyssa is being a good little girl, ;) :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

I’m amazed that you can just take in your cats like that.. our Humane Society has a freaking 3 week waiting list to take your animal in.. but maybe it’s because I live in a bigger city? Lol.. anyways.. send me your address if you want goodies. :)

    What a precious kitty!

I, too, am having flea problems. I found a great *natural* and CHEAP remedy for fleas on PETA: “Another nontoxic rinse that both kills fleas and soothes irritated skin can be made with a fresh lemon and hot water. Just slice the lemon thinly (including the peel), pour a pint of near-boiling water over it, and allow it to steep overnight. The next day, sponge the solution onto the animal’s skin and let dry, or pour into an empty spray bottle and use as a spray (extra liquid should be stored in the refrigerator).”
