Don’t throw shit on my floor!

So this evening I’m in the dining room. My manager is nearby, cleaning the soda machines. I have the back part of the restaurant blocked off with chairs, and I just finished sweeping back there. As I’m sweeping the other side of the restaurant, a group of four teenage boys (if I had to guess their ages I’d say 13-14) come in. They order their food, and as they go to sit down, they’re goofing around, pushing one another, etc. Well, wouldn’t you know, one kid spills his king sized cup of soda.
Okay, no big deal… I’m annoyed, but it happens. BUT, what they do next is so… just… mind boggling. I couldn’t believe they did this in front of me.

I’m standing about three feet behind their booth, mopping up the soda that was spilled everywhere. I glance to my side and notice two packets of ketchup lying on the floor. I think, “Hmm, where did those come from?”, because I had just swept that area. I thought perhaps my manager dropped them. No big deal.
But then… I look up… right as one of the boys throws a packet of ketchup over to where the other two were at.

I guess looks could kill, because as two of the boys looked my way and started to laugh, they abruptly wiped their faces clean of any expression.
With as much control as I could muster, and through gritted teeth, I said, “Excuse me. I don’t mean to be rude, but would you kindly not throw things? I have enough of a mess as it is, and I’d really appreciate if you wouldn’t add to it. This is a civilized atmosphere. Act civilized, or leave.”

And you know what? They were so embarrassed at being caught and called out on their silly actions that they apologized, picked up all of the ketchup packets, ate their food and quickly left… and they didn’t leave a single crumb at the table!

Wow at least they picked the stuff up and left! I often have to skate patrol when I work at the ice rink, and people can seriously drive me up a wall! I know how the customer service business is. ;-)

oh man I wish we could have done that when I worked at McDonalds. I had that sort of thing happen all the time. I remember one time I did say something to a little boy because he discovered that the play area if you stomp just right you can hear the noise all throughout the restraunt. But other then that never got to do something like that.

I wouldn’t do anything like that in a fast food place. If I did I would get really done of my parents and if I wasn’t with my parents i’d still not do it because known to my friends I am the “sensible” one ;)

Hey Carol, why don’t you leave an email address and say that? Coward. It’s her website and she has the right to blog about whatever she wants and if you don’t like it, don’t even bother reading it.

Didn’t you know? It’s always the pussies who leave comments without e-mail addresses or URLs. It’s a clear cut case of being able to dish it out but not being table to take it.
