Let’s get real.

1. Alyssa’s finger is okay. Bruised, and requires some stitches, but no broken bones.

2. Anyone know anything about someone named Kim Widelo / roseheart1@hotmail.com?
End edit

I love my daughter’s baby book. It’s fun documenting teeth, foods, smiles, laughter, those first steps, etc. But something crucial is missing. And by crucial I don’t mean the “cute” stuff… I mean the real stuff. Such as first temper tantrum. First refusal to take a nap. First “no”. First food throwing. First ignoring of reprimands/warnings. First grin at an irritated mother or father. First illness. And of course, how about the milestones I’ll be mentally documenting? First injury, and first visit to the ER (my mother just called me; Alyssa is being admitted right now).
Where are those milestones?!

I also collect and keep every “first” item. I have one of the diapers from Alyssa’s first pack of diapers. I kept a pacifier. I kept her cord clamp (not the cord itself!). I have the onesie and the blanket they wrapped her in at the hospital. I have her Baby’s first Christmas outfit (complete with pink santa hat), her first Easter outfit, and her first Halloween outfit. I have the hospital bracelets Daniel and I had on during my delivery, as well as hers. I have the visitor stickers he wore when he came back and forth to the hospital after she was born. I believe one of my nursing bras is in there too.
Of course, I’m sure I’ll be keeping the hospital bracelet she’s bound to receive from today.

So, 17 weeks pregnant as of today. With a few kicks from the gummi bear (yes, we’ve officially been calling this baby gummi bear) to really enforce the feeling of pregnancy. Amazingly, I haven’t had any morning sickness in about two weeks. A few close calls, and instances of feeling nauseous, but no actual throwing up. It’s a nice change from daily hurling.

We’re putting off looking for another place until we know the gender of this baby. We’re still a bit disappointed about losing the house, but we’re also seeing it as a blessing in disguise, even though I’m annoyed that the landlady got away with our initial application fee/deposit (most of our conversations, including the one where she told us we were getting the house, were made on recorded phone lines here in the office; I’m tempted to get copies and file a claim against her to get our money back), but we’re going to write it off as a mistake on our part… and definitely poor judgement when it came to trusting her.
I’m a firm believer in things happening for a reason… I’m just not quite sure what that reason is.
Anyway. If this baby is a girl, we’re going to look for another two bedroom house – just a slightly larger one, and one that’s in a more convenient location. We’re still planning on renting, as we’re not quite ready to settle down and actually commit to a house. I’m sure that’ll happen a few years down the line, but right now, it’s not for us.
And if the baby is a boy? Then back to looking for a three bedroom!

And speaking of genders… Daniel has finally made up his mind as to what he’d prefer more (of course, we would love either gender equally, but you can still hope!). He was really set on a boy for quite a while (since I initially became pregnant, actually), and now he’s decided he’d like another girl. Something about having “Daddy’s girls” really appeals to him. ♥

Hmm. Daddy’s two princesses and his queen. I think I like the sound of that.

That sounds adorable about Daniel wanting two girls haha.

I don’t think my mom’s kept any of our first things. If she has then she’s put it well out of our site but I was rummaging through and I found our old ‘hospital’ forms. (such as date of birth/time/weight/nurse et cetera)

    It’s rather cute.

Poor Alyssa! :( I hope she’s alright! My ideal family is a boy and a girl, but whatever way it turns out, I’ll be happy with! I think I’d want experience with both genders. But having two little girls would always be great!

i am so glad to hear that your daughter is ok :) poor thing. but these things happen. my brother and i had our share of hospital visits as chilren, it’s inevitable. still sad though :(

my parents kept all sorts of our baby stuff but for some reason they never followed though on the baby books. my baby book only has like..2 cards from my birth, and stuff about my first doctor’s visit, but nothing else. lazy parents :|

i urge you to file that claim against that woman. and i hope you find a new place soon :)

  7. You gave her a diposit/downpayment and you dont get your money back … that’s really odd. A deposit to me means “holding your spot” in a way, showing that you had made the commitment to whatever it was… If it did’nt follow though (on either parties falt) then you should get your money back… at least that’s what I understand about deposits .. I get my deposit back when I move out of my apartment..

I have all my baby information, too much information at times. From BM’s to Dr’s visits, with stories of what had happened to me that day (eg. fell down stairs, rolled approx. three feet into the wall… but seemed ok. Did’nt cry) …

What happened to Alyssa? I hope she’s ok!

I save pretty much everything too. I have AJ’s cord stump, as well as the little do hicky they put on his penis after being circumsized. Not to mention his first bobo, hospital blanket, hospital hat, first outfit, first haircut, etc. I save everything he has. I need to!!! heehee.

That’s horrible about the house…. it’s shame, but like you said, things happen for a reason. They should give you your deposit back though, don’t you think? Hmmm. I’m not really sure how that works though.
