It took me most of last night and today, but after some researching, I found out how to synchronize Microsoft Outlook between my laptop and my computer. Translation: if I send an e-mail from my laptop, after synchronizing I’ll see that same e-mail as “sent” on my computer. Ditto for downloading and deleting e-mails, adding/modifying contacts, etc. Nice.
My brother in law offered to sell me his soul for this laptop. Sorry, but $1800 > my brother in law’s soul. Speaking of laptops, my mother decided to finally get herself a laptop. She broke her CD in order to get it, but she says it’s worth it. She has a similiar model – more space, lower end processor, various cosmetic differences, etc. Tomorrow I’ll be helping her synchronize her computer & laptop e-mail.
I really love my job, but I never would have thought that such a professional level job would have such unprofessional people. We are an a relatively small office, and let me tell you, I’ve never seen so much bullshit and pettiness crammed into such a small environment in all of my job experience. On my very first day I sat dumbfounded as my supervisor and two co-workers openly bashed and made fun of the senior second shift person. First shift likes to make big deals about petty things. For instance, if something is screwed up (paperwork filed wrong, wrong fax number given out, wrong modification to an account, etc.), the results are something like this:
1. Supervisor is notified. She then chews out the person who screwed up.
2. Supervisor’s “right hand”, aka a first shift person, leaves a little post-it note for herself, reminding herself to chew out the person who screwed up at the next available opportunity.
3. Right hand will then brag within earshot of all surrounding employees (including the person who screwed up) to supervisor over the phone about how she “set them straight”. Sometimes an e-mail is sent too.
3. Head boss hears about the screw up, and proceeds to chew out the person who screwed up over the phone and in person.
4. Supervisor of the particular shift the incident happened on gets chewed out.
5. E-mails are sent out and memos are posted in a “central” book that we all have to constantly check for updates to read and sign.
6.Local billboards and radio station air time is purchased to further broadcast the person’s name and what they did wrong.Okay, maybe that’s going a little too far…
Believe me when I say that this happens even for the smallest and most insignificant of incidents. It’s crap like this that makes me want to stay on second shift, even though first shift would be great hours because I’d be done my work day by 3-5pm, rather than just starting it. It is purely a first shift thing. Second shift can’t stand it, and third shift really can’t stand it, since they’re so out of the loop with things (since that’s how third shift is).
In other news, Waiting is a really funny movie. I watched it tonight at work, and it cracked me up. I just wish it was longer!

Jenn, can you IM me or email me when you get online? I found something that I think you would really find interesting!
Have you ever heard the expression that ” Shit rolls down hill”. Well that means if someone screws up, every one in a position above that person will get the opportunity to chew that person out. Oh and yes, every one will know about, because thats just the way things work. Happens all the time in my Job.
Shit might rolls down the hill – but noone says that you will have to catch it.
There is drama in every workplace, it’s sickening. That’s why I want to become self-employed someday *dreams* lol
I saw Waiting in the Theater, actually my friend had won tickets to see the screening in my area. It is so funny, really enjoyable. I didnt recognize the name until I had gone to the website. It is deffinitly worth renting, especially those in the food industry field.
I hear you on the office pettiness, its quite ridiculous! In the office I work at, there is more shit talking, back stabbing, and childish drama than I have ever experienced. I would say about 30% more drama between grown men and women than in highschool! The examples you gave about all the “supervisors” setting the “in the wrong” person straight, made me think of the movie Office Space. In office space just one person has like 20 above people who set him stright when something is done wrong. I feel bad for the people who constantly have people talking shit about them and chewing them out over one thing.
nice lap top! congrats on getting it!
The last 2 places I’ve been employed, have had the same type of things happen. I’m so glad to actually be rid of both places now. I went into working for those 2 companies with high hopes of working with true, hard working professional but in the end, I realized that it’s all about politics and who can be either “boss” or “boss’ pet”. Neither place seemed to care about their employee’s well being, nor the deparments well being. There was all kinds of drama pettiness every single day. I didn’t like I’d stick it out but I did. We also had huge issues with having more than one “boss” and that became so irritating because our real “boss” didn’t seem to mind and even allowed it. I don’t know why people have a hard time letting drama and the like go, in a work environment. I’m sure you all have other things to be worrying about and a lot more to do than stuff like that.
I hope it gets better. I know that kind of thing can make even the best jobs feel like the worst.
Congrats on the laptop. We’re considering getting a laptop after we sell our house but who knows. We have way too many other things to buy at this point and pay off!
What a soooooper laptop! :D
I can’t wait to work with ‘professionals’ lol!
Yay!
I always find it amusing how one individual’s actions can set off another whole chain of similarly-related events.. =p
I see a lot of that where I work, and I don’t even work in an office. I work in a clothing store, and there’s a lot of pettiness and bs going on. However, I do work at a place where about 60% of the employees are under the age of 18, or still in high school (me included).
Jenn, I want your laptop! It’s so cool
Ive wanted one for so long but I cant save money.. and now I have to save for driving lessons lol. I know what you mean about the people in work, it can be like that in my work from time to time. Maybe not quite as petty as that though.
