Hey mommies and mommies-to-be!
When I was pregnant with Alyssa, I didn’t bother to do any baby shopping until I was about 32 weeks. Of course, once we knew the gender (at 21 weeks) I picked up some pretty clothes here and there, but I didn’t get down to the serious shopping until later. The only exception was us buying the Graco Pack ‘n Play/crib around 25 weeks, but that’s because I was having some cramping and after a quick hospital visit we suddenly realized the baby could possibly come early (Alyssa sure did prove us wrong there!).
This time around is the same. I’m 19 weeks and two days, but I haven’t bought anything yet, except for a crib (in storage; it would be weird to put it up now) and some baby gloves (eh, they were clearanced at Target; I couldn’t resist passing them up!). Although we do have an infant car seat for the baby, as we now have two full-sized carseats for Alyssa (one for each car, haha).
We’ll find out the gender on March 7th, but we probably still won’t bother to do any serious shopping until a bit later.
I guess my reason for holding back is partly due to it being bad luck to shop so early for baby, and because it seems weird to buy for a baby that won’t be here for another five months. Luckily, when we do shop, the only big (aka expensive) items to buy will be a double stroller and a second Graco Pack ‘n Play (for my mother to keep at her house, so both Alyssa and her brother or sister have a place to sleep), as well as a second breastpump for me to use at work. Then it’s just the little things – clothing, newborn sized diapers, a few more Avent bottles (or at the very least, new nipples for the bottles we have now), some extra baby supplies, etc. I kept most of Alyssa’s cloth diapers and receiving blankets, so we won’t have to purchase those all over again.
Then there’s the “fun” baby stuff: a boppy (I used regular pillows when it came to nursing Alyssa, but they didn’t provide enough support), crib coordinates (we’re pretty much decided on Classic Pooh), and keepsake items, such as a memory book.
Note to self: Start working on Alyssa’s scrapbook ASAP! I want to get it done (or at least current until this spring) before the baby is born, because I worry that things will be too hectic afterwards, and I won’t get to it.
Lastly, I can’t believe so many of you (99 to be exact!) think I’m having a boy… but then, with the dreams I’ve been having, I think I’m having a boy, too.

I started shopping for my baby when I was out of my first trimester. I couldn’t help myself from buying some clothing here & there. Plus, we got a lot of stuff from friends which was mostly girl stuff, thankfully! I’m 26 weeks and I just ordered the nursery furniture and bedding not too long ago. I plan to have the nursery set up before April. I’ve also started stocking up on diapers. After I found out the sex, I definitely went out and bought a whole bunch of stuff, I couldn’t help myself. I’m the kind of person who likes to get everything done right away, and not put it off to the last minute, which is what I would do if I didn’t start now. I haven’t decided what kind of bottles I want to use. Either Avent or Playtex VentAir. Which do you recommend?
We bought things here and there throughout my pregnancy. Clearance items, things we knew we would NEED, and then later on several things on yard sales. Most of the big ticket items weren’t purchased until about a month before he was born, but we had stocked up on quite a bit over the months. We didn’t find out what we were having, but we still had plenty of clothes on hand. I still have all of the little girl clothes stocked away in the closet.
oooh i can’t wait untill i can have a baby! (bit young atm lol) it all sounds so exciting! but i would want to run out an buy things as soon as i knew lol x
Most the things we bought AJ were clothes…. everything else was given to us at the shower. But once we found out we were having a boy, we definately did a little shopping here and there. We got the crib Sandra used with her youngest and my friend Laurie gave us her old baby dresser…. all the big stuff family and friends gave at the shower.
When I was pregnant, before I knew the sex, I used to have dreams about the baby being a girl. I took that as a sign that it would be a boy. Odd, huh? I don’t know why I thought that way though. I guess the only good thing about having a girl would be [for you] is you have clothes from when Alyssa was younger, so you don’t have to buy too many new things unless you wanted to.
I started seriously shopping after I found out the sex – I figured the technician could’ve been wrong, but I wanted to buy baby clothes so bad by that point that I went shopping crazy.
I bought the big stuff along and along. That wasn’t a big deal because the car seat/stroller/crib/bedding.. it was all bought gender neutral in case we decided to have another kid – or the ultrasound tech was wrong. lol
I started when I found out I was pregnant.. I’m just so excited.. but nervous the labor wont go quite right.
I bought a few things here and there but nothing major but then around 22 weeks I bought alot of clothes and cutsie stuff I just new i was having a girl… and I did :D
Thankfully I kept all Taylor’s clothes so I only need a few new things for Kira when shes born, but having a boy coming a long too we bought some onsies, booties..all that stuff for him. We bought the furniture a few months ago to make sure it was delivered on time. We also had to get the double stroller and 2 car seats. I still havent gone out and purchased diapers, bottles, etc..Another thing I did was keep Tay’s swing and bouncer..thankfully I did or i’d be shelling out more money and I can’t afford that expense right now.
I was lucky…my girlfriends gave me tons upon TONS of baby stuff for both of my girls since they had children of their own. I bought a few girlie clothes when I found out the gender, and purchased a crib and the other little things such as bottles/nipples, pacifiers, baby toys and bath accessories, etc. Having one baby can get expensive, but having more than one will make you aware of how little money you actually have. It’s good that you’re both working…saving up is the key.
I wanted to thank you for offering to help me with my css/wordpress woes. I don’t know what I’m going to do with my domain, but more than not I will probably get a sub domain, and if your offer still applies, I would greately appreciate you setting up wordpress for me.
Thank you for being so kind and generous to a lass in need
I am not a mommy yet or even pregnant, but I can imagine how exciting it must be to shop for baby clothes and stuff.
hello there, hey i love your site so much! very lovely! i love the colors… vry cute!
When I was preggers with Daniel, I didn’t really do much shopping until I was in my third trimester.
We didn’t find out what Jordan’s sex was until she was born. We bought things here and there (of course they were all white, yellow and green). I had a feeling I was having a boy the entire time, but Ross was positive it was a girl. So, we didn’t buy any pinks or blues until we knew for sure.
Another reason why we choose Winnie The Pooh as a theme… it’s universal.
Anyway… I still think you’re having a boy. ;)
Hi..congratulations for the beautiful moment that i guess u are living ^^~
yet i am not mom, but i wish that moment come to life very soon..
enjoy ur time darling..bye bye =D
Having…a baby is exciting =) If your baby is a boy, do you plan on getting him the toy trucks and stuff like that in advance? And if your baby is a girl, will you buy her some stuff that you didn’t get your other daughter? Just a thought. =)
And, what do you plan on naming your child if its a boy or girl?:)
Anywhos, I love the site. I am still gazing around and I’m enjoying myself. =)
It won’t be long till the baby arrives! Do you have any names picked out yet?
congratulations on the baby :=]
i hope all is well

Josh has a Travel cot at his Grandparents which doubles up as a play pen, although with him not being old enough to use it i havn’t really thought about it, we’ll see!
I’m in love with the new layout, that tutorial is pretty fantastic!
