Still alive.

I’m feeling a little better, but now Alyssa has relapsed. Of course, she threw up right after her last bite of dinner, and I spent a good hour taking apart, scrubbing and sanitizing her highchair, doing dishes, and then scrubbing and sanitizing the kitchen. Alyssa and I took a much needed shower, and then once I had her in bed (fresh sheets; her bedroom had been aired out all day) I went around and sanitized everything in the house, including furniture, our bed and pillows. Ugh, ugh, ugh. I hate being sick, so dealing with the nauseating scent of Lysol is worth it if it means not relapsing again! Thankfully, food-wise we’re well stocked on pedialyte, and easy to digest things like soup broth and plain cereals, and Daniel said he’d stop and pick up more saltine crackers on the way home from work. Hopefully by the end of the weekend we’ll all be over this!

Childbirth class
For those who asked, the reason the childbirth class was a long one is because it’s a condensed one. Most of the classes run two or three weeks for two hours at a time. With our schedules it would be difficult to keep nights open for both of us week after week, so we opted for the 8.5 hour class instead. It was nice to have a little refresher course on childbirth, specificially breathing techniques. Daniel learned (and practiced, mmm) some nice massages. In general we had a really nice time, although by the end of the day I felt a little overkilled with all of the pregnancy and childbirth talk!

Zoo trip
We had a blast. The weather was absolutely beautiful – a bright, sunny day (we actually got a hint of sunburn on our cheeks and noses!), with temps in the lower 60s. We made good time getting down to Philly, and the zoo wasn’t very crowded at all. We saw every single exhibit, and Alyssa alternated between riding in the stroller, riding on Daniel’s shoulders, being carried by me, and walking along with us (and running ahead of us and in the opposite direction that we were going, as toddlers are prone to do).
A few highlights of the day included petting some rather tame peacocks and geese, watching two peacocks battle over a cracker someone dropped, having two geese follow us around and beg for food (one actually snatched a vanilla wafer right out of Alyssa’s hands!), going for a pedal-powered ride in a swan boat on a lake, and taking Alyssa to play in the same zoo activity house I played in as a child.
We took a lot of photos, and our favorite ones can be found here.

And I think I’ll wrap this entry up with my favorite photos, which are of a rather playful polar bear.

wow the last pic is gorgeous/adorable!! i hope you guys feel better. i had a stomach virus in february and although i only barfed once, i couldn’t eat for days. i always blame it on the climate XD

Ohhhh so cute!! XD Do you ever get those moments (especially this time in the zoo) where you just step back and think, WOW, I have a husband, and daughter and .. a family now? *hugs* That’s so awesome. ^^ You can take your new baby to the zoo eventually too!

  4. I doubt that you’d actually approve this comment…but:

If the lysol makes you feel worse…have you ever thought of one of those hand held steam cleaners? They sanitize basically everything and only use water so you don’t have to worry about a lingering smell to make you, or Alyssa, feel sick again. The one I have works great, and cuts down on cleaning time too.

It also may be a safer bet considering you’re pregnant with a small child in the house. Lysol isn’t the best stuff to breath in, sick or not.

    Just an idea though.

Zoo trips are so much fun. I would’ve run away from the geese though, I had a bad experience with one when I was little so I’m very wary of them.

8.5 hours seems like an awfully long time to be talking about childbirth, but as long as you’re going to get massages out of it I’d say you got a good deal. ;)

  6. Crackers are the best thing ever.

Being sick is bleh, though. : /

Hope you all feel better soon.

The zoo sounds like fun. I can’t wait to go this spring/summer and take my baby there for the first time. The pictures are lovely! Polar bears are so neat.

So glad you guys are beginning to get over it! Hopefully by now it’s a lot better. :)

.. and wow, you and Dan are brave to go through 8.5 hours instead of having it stretched through a few weeks.. I would definitely be tired after 2 or 3 hours! But I’m sure the massages made it livable.. : )

And wow, those are great pictures you took at the zoo. I really like the last one. I think that’s the best one. :)

UGH! Relapses are the worst. And of course, unless you go through and sanitize everything, you’ll just end up with more relapses. :) The pics of the polar bear are adorable. I’m about 1500 miles from the zoo I went to as a kid. :( I’m glad you had fun at the zoo. *watch out for those geese lol*

What I don’t understand is… why is Alyssa sick a lot? I would have thought being breastfed for almost a yr would have given her a pretty strong immune system above the kiddies that are fed formula at such a young age.

What I don’t understand is… why do you continue to comment here as if you’re a friend when in reality you talk disgusting shit about me behind my back? I also don’t call one or two colds and a rather contagious stomach virus “sick a lot”. Piss off, thanks. -Jenn

You go Jenn with the above comment. “Marie” aka Anglea has lalways had something to say about me and what I do with my life and my looks. However, I just seen her teeth and they are YELLOW AND FUCKED UP! Maybe that’s why she never smiles? hahaha!

Anyhow, That girl needs to get a life instead of worrying about others. That’s all shes done since I’ve known her.

Glad the Zoo was fun. The pics are cute. I wish I was there. :)

Being sick sucks. We’ve been pretty fortunate, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it stays that way. I’ve had the sniffles for a couple of days, but as long as it doesn’t go past that I’ll be happy. I hope you all are back to 100% soon.

  24. Ahh your zoo sounds more fun than mine!

I got my easter card in the mail, it’s BEAUTIFUL. Thanks. :D

Seems like your a very busy lady!! I love those pictures, they are so sweet!!

  26. Saltine’s are life savers. I hope your little one can keep some food down. I feel so bad for her, being sick when I was little was so horrible. :(

  27. Chelsey wrote on #

Wow! You must be excited about having your baby. Well take care of yourself now!

Oh nice pics. The last shot is great. We were at the zoo a couple weeks ago, but the weather was blah, we didn’t stay too long. :P

  29. I’m glad that your getting better, and hopfully your daughter starts to feel better soon. Drink lots of liquids though out the day, you dont want to get dehydrated.

I personally hate Zoo’s the only zoo’s I will ever visit again is anything associated with the San Diego Zoo, or Busch Gardens. My local totally sucks, and have had lots of non native animals die for stupid reasons and lack of proper care. Thankfully they had some licences taken away (no longer associated with the national zoo registry, or something like that, the place that monitors all zoos)

Though our Aquarium totally kicks ass, I love the beluga whales, as well as the aquarium fishes and sharkes. Years and Years ago the aquarium land also had a “Zoo” it also had polar bears as well as penguins. I miss those penguins.

    lindsey,
that comment you made about someone’s teeth is funny, considering you’re only 27 and just had all of your front teeth pulled out.

I agree, I do not think it is right for us to continue this is jenn’s comments. So if you have a reply to my comment, e-mail me (saienni@gmail.com) instead of posting it here.
