The title says it all: we’re getting a house! :D
Everything fell into place today, so I don’t feel quite so apprehensive about “counting my chickens before they hatch”. It’s actually the home I mentioned in this entry. It’s a three bedroom, 1.5 bath, living room, dining room, kitchen, lots of closets, two car garage that’s attached to the house (the steps lead up into the kitchen).
We were able to take a look at it today. Even though the development managers wanted to get the house completely fixed up by January or February, it was so trashed that even now they still have a bit more to do. Our move in date will be June 1.
What’s left to be done: painting the living room, dining room, hallway, and the master bedroom and Alyssa’s bedroom (which Daniel and I will take care of: white or possibly lavender for our bedroom, and a light pastel pink for Alyssa’s room). The baby’s bedroom already has fancy wood paneling, so I’ll decorate in there with some kind of border trimming and perhaps some wall hangings here and there. Also, a new front door, new windows, new toilet, recaulking of the tub, and new carpeting and linoleum, which will be done by the end of the week (as soon as the painting is finished).
The house will be gorgeous once it’s done. All of the rooms are bright, airy and spacious, there are lots of windows everywhere, a nice ceiling fan/chandelier in the dining room, and sliding glass doors that lead out to the back. And there is a lot of land all around the house, and trees along the side and bordering the land.
So anyway. We’re going to be very, very busy these next few weeks. We need to hustle and get the painting done asap. I already bought paint for Alyssa’s bedroom, and we’re going to try to get over to the house tomorrow morning and get the walls cleaned and then apply primer, and then we’ll do the same with the master bedroom. Then we’ll wait a day for the primer to dry, and then get down to the painting.
And of course, in between doing that and dealing with work and errands there’s lots of packing to do! We’re going to stay with my mother so that she can watch Alyssa for us while we’re painting and packing. Plus, it’ll be easier to pack up our house if we’re not living there… this way we can pack up everything, and not have to worry about packing up last minute items like dishes and toiletries and electronics and clothes. Everything will be taken care of.
Aside from the huge, spacious, gorgeous home, there’s several other wonderful things about living here:
1) We’ll be literally just down the road from my mother’s house as well as my grandfather’s house. They each live on opposite sides of the development, and our house is in front of the development.
2) I made the mistake of being foolish and allowing our current home address get out. I can promise that won’t happen again – PO boxes only.
3) We’ll have a cheaper phone company, and we can get DSL, which is much cheaper than cable!
4) Daniel will be several miles closer to his job.
Whew. It’s been a long, exciting day. I’m going to pop some tums and then relax. Goodnight!

Congratulations on getting the new house! I moved to a new house recently too and I know the excitement it brings. The bad thing is packing but I hope everything goes well for you! I’m very happy for you
Congrats on the house! :D its really good that you’ve got lots of space now, I bet it’ll be awesome for Alyssa and the new baby as they grow up. My mum always jokes that my brother learned how to run before he learned how to walk because he used to try to chase our dog around.
ah cool congrats
What, no sagging steps!?
Just kidding, congrats!
That’s great! Congrats and good luck.
I’m so excited for you! I bet you are just too excited for words… well excpet for the moving part lol. Thats great that you have gotten such a nice house plus it has all of those bonuses.
!! Wow congratulations! It sounds perfect! Just make sure to keep the windows open when you paint, the fumes are bad, and I’m not sure if they would affect your pregnancy but it is better to be safe then sorry!
aww, congrats on the new house! i know just how exciting that can be. i wish you the best of luck with everything
Holy COW congrats!! The house sounds absolutely fantastic, even though you have your work cut out for you. It’ll be worth it in the end, good luck!! excitement!
Wow thats fantastic Jenn! I’m really excited for you. It’ll be nice to move in and everything done (hopefully) before the baby’s born too.
That’s amazing Jenn- a place to call your own before the baby is born. How is the naming process coming along by the way?
congrats, babe!
that’s such exciting news. i can’t wait until i have a place of my own & don’t feel like i’m throwing money away on rent… ewe. i hate that.
take some pictures!!!
Finally! I’m so happy for you, girl
I can’t wait to see pics of the new place!

That’s great news, Jenn! Moving house is so exciting. I hope it doesn’t tire you out too much. ;)

If you had read the old entry that Jenn provided a link to, you’d know that Jenn will be renting this house, not owning it. I can understand why you assumed she’d be buying it, though, from the way the current entry is worded…that’s what I originally thought, too, until I looked back at the old entry.
I’m not trying to sound rude, just stating the facts. Most 21-year-olds aren’t home-owners yet, anyways…which is obviously understandable. :-)
The house sounds lovely–I’m jealous!
Cool deal. I hope it all works out!
I myself, am looking forward to going back to townhouse/condo/apartment living. Since Jo and I do not have children and aren’t planning to adopt any time soon, we’ll enjoy not having yards to maintain and what have you. It is nice having a house though, especially if you have the time to keep it and do the yard work too. Usually you’re able to do more decorating too.. I bet it’ll like nice.
