Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to fellow Americans. How did you spend your holiday? Husband and I packed up the kidlets and made the one hour drive to his aunt’s house, where we had “dinner” (who eats dinner at 3pm?) with his aunt, uncle, grandmother, mother, brothers and sisters. While I’m not all that fond of turkey (seriously, I have turkey once a year – on Thanksgiving!), I enjoyed the meal. The carrots, corn and stuffing were especially delicious.

No visit with Husband’s grandmother would be complete without her ideas on parenting. She seems to think she is the parenting expert due to having had six kids on her own. Perhaps I’m being a little judgemental, but I feel that your parenting abilities are more accurately judged by quality rather than quantity.
Grandmother’s parenting tips and advice included the following:

Boy Child is too old for breastfeeding.
Boy Child should have been eating solids for over a month.
Boy Child should be crawling.
We should be standing Boy Child up several times a day to prepare him for walking.
Girl Child shouldn’t be using sippy cups, as they’re for babies only.

…Boy Child isn’t quite four months old. He’ll be breastfed for at least a year. We don’t plan on starting solids of any kind until he’s about five months old. He isn’t even rolling from his back to his stomach, let alone crawling. And standing him up several times a day? His legs aren’t ready for the weight yet.
And Girl Child may be two, but I’ll be damned if she’s going to run around our house with open cups of milk and carpet-staining juices. She gets a cup during meals and while we’re out. All other times? Sippy cups!

Anyway, I’m off to spend the remainder of Thanksgiving with my mother, brothers and grandfather. Toodles!
