Now that Ryan is four months old, my mother has started in with her he-must-have-cereal tirade. According to her, he's starving. He's never satisfied. I should have been giving him rice cereal since he was a month old.
She comes to this conclusion because my son loves to eat. He stares at my breasts whenever they're not in his face. He nurses every one to two hours throughout the day, except when he's napping. He cries as if he's dying if his precious boob is delayed or withheld.
Dude, my son is not starving. He is gaining weight and growing consistently, and his output is just fine. I just weighed him last week – 19 lbs. And his length (as of two weeks ago) is around 27?. Not starving by any means. He just happens to like milk – a lot.
Judge for yourself:

We're not planning on starting solids of any kind – rice cereal included – until at least five months (so right around Christmas). And even then, it'll be maybe one or two spoonfuls of rice cereal mixed with breast milk for him to try out. And speaking of solids… I have a crapload of apples and various other vegetables I need to get cooked down to put into ice cube trays, which I'll then put in the freezer. Once frozen, I'll vacuum-pack the food cubes and put them back in the freezer. Ta-da! DIY baby food.

And while I have two kids (Alyssa is five, and Ryan is three), you won't find "mommy" in my username or email address, nor does my blog revolve around them. I'm a mother, but most importantly I am me, with a passion for love, blogging, reading, and photography.
