My New Year’s Resolution

4 comments - Leave a comment

My New Year’s resolution is to lose weight. I am not going to set a goal in terms of pounds, but rather in terms of getting into a routine and sticking with it.

Nearly two years ago I purchased a stationery exercise bike. It features electronic timer and tracking of speed (per hour), overall mileage and calories burned. It has eight levels of resistance.

I am ashamed to admit that I did not use it much – perhaps half of a dozen times? I always had an excuse. I was busy pumping milk for Alyssa (I pumped every two hours while awake). I was busy with work (I worked 30-40 hours). I was busy with this, busy with that.

Well, there will be no more excuses. I pump my breasts, but only three times a day, and two of those times are in the morning (after Ryan’s first nursing session) and right before I go to bed (which is typically not long after Ryan goes to bed).
I’m not working, neither out of the home or with any kind of web hosting.
Ryan is sleeping through the night – so I have the opportunity to get a full night of unbroken sleep every night.
Alyssa and Ryan are on decent schedules, and nap around the same time every day, giving me at least a one hour break.

I am going to use my exercise bike once a day, every day, for thirty minutes. Today was my first day, and I feel refreshed! In addition, my ass is numb, the girly parts were rubbing about in an odd manner, leading to numbness at the hot spot, and I broke a sweat. But it’s refreshing. And it’s progress. It may be the beginning, but it’s the beginning of something wonderful.

Every morning I am going to weigh myself. Every day I will ride my bike for exactly one half hour. And I will continue to watch what I eat, and continue to breastfeed Ryan and pump my breasts three times (milk coming out = calories used for it, whee!).

Every evening I will check in here and post that day’s weight, as well as my bike riding statistics. Fortunately for you viewers, I will keep these posts in a separate category that will not be displayed on the main page. Unfortunately for you viewers, I cannot seem to find an exclude-category plugin that will filter a specified category’s posts out of the main page. At least, not without messing with some other plugins and settings.
Oh well – one extra post a day to skim by won’t be too bad, right?
Here’s to a healthier 2007!

Sounds like a good plan to me! Someone I know has been on the Sonoma Diet and she loves it. I guess you could say it is Mediterranean style cooking. You still get snacks and carbs (the good ones).. even a glass of wine at dinner. She said she noticed a difference the first week. I’ve been wanting to try it but getting everyone in the house on the same level will be hard.

I think that going for getting an active routine rather then setting a goal for pounds is a good idea. It seems like all you hear about on television and well everywhere these days is lectures on living an active lifestyle. I say good for you and I hope you are able to stick to it! Hopefully the numbness will pass soon ;)

Put this on top of your index page:

(Remove gaps between the ?’s and the . :) and whatever change the 16 to whatever category ID this category is. Voila – automatically stops the category being displayed on the front page. :)
