HDMI goodness.

I’m going to be honest here. I don’t know a whole lot about HDMI cables, except that they’re somehow required for the elaborate setup my husband is planning for our up and coming upgrade to a fantastic home entertainment center. I also know that they really enhance the whole experience for viewers.

And I know that they can present the same types of problems other types of cables (coaxial, network, etc.): it’s a huge rain on your parade if the cord is too short! You either have to run out and spend anywhere from $20 – $50 for a long enough cord, or save a few bucks but go through more aggravation with getting one of those little connections to hook two shorter cables together. Or, which I’ve done in the past due to laziness and lack of funds: rearrange everything so that it is all within reach. :P

I just showed Dan this site on cables, and he gives it his seal of approval in regards to quality and price. So there you have it – decent HDMI cables!

HDMI cables are like the digital modern-day version of RCA and DVI (digital) cables. They transmit all digital audio and video. *nod* We had to go out and buy them last year when we bought our hdtv. Fun stuff.

Spending $20 on hdmi cables? That’s essentially like buying your designer clothes from TJ Maxx, and expecting the quality to be the same, if not better. I can’t say that I would agree with those cables being approved for having “quality” albeit price would satisfy anyone’s need.

I realize that this is a paid post, but if you’re seriously looking into upgrading your television to support high-def, look into Monster cables. They’ve nicely insulated, nice quality, albeit expensive. It’s well worth it if you seriously want to get a nice home entertainment system up and running.

^The only reason to go out and buy Monster cables is because of the lifetime warranty. You can go to monoprice.com and buy their upper end HDMI cables (gold plated, ferrite cores) and they’ll have the same performance as Monster cables for half the price. When you buy Monster you’re buying the name and the warranty in case your cord somehow gets severed or is faulty. However, monoprice also gives out a lifetime warranty on the cables it sells.

Don’t get me wrong, Monster cables are certainly quality cables, but they’re horribly overpriced. You can definitely get the same thing cheaper. It just won’t have the brand name attached to it.

I don’t know anything about cables, but I think it’s awesome that you found cables at a lower price.

@ Ally, unlike most other people, I don’t really pay the price that everyone else pays for Monster cables, thus my lack of interest in the price of the Monster cables. I pay what my company pays for, so I don’t have to worry about the added on margin that effects most others.

Yeah, there are other cables out there, but from my experience in home theater equipment, I would recommend Monster of anything else, despite being horribly overpriced. Considering you’re paying for quality product.

HDMI cables are really nice! From what I heard.

I personally would just move the T.V. or drill another hole becasue of my cheapskate ways.

I don’t know much about cables either. My dad does, so he gets them for my computer. J/w where do you go for html or do you use wordpress?

@ Jordan: That’s the problem, not everyone has a connection where they can get Monster cables cheaply. So, I’m suggesting an alternative where you can get the same exact cable for half the price. It performs on par with Monster and you still get the warranty. You just don’t have to pay the extraordinary price.

I’ve already been through this whole ordeal this time last year. After speaking with entirely too many people about cables, this was what I heard time and time again. And after comparing a Monster HDMI cable to our current cable we bought from monoprice.. there is no difference except that price.

Thing is, with digital.. either you get the data or you don’t. As long as you don’t buy a really super cheap (5 dollar) cable that is going to result in data loss, you’ll be fine. It’s all 1s and 0s. If we were talking about analog, there would be more reason to buy high priced cables, but with digital that’s not the case.

I should have posted earlier! :)

Monster is a good brand, but what you get out of it is basically just reassurance that the cables are actually tested. I have personally had many of my cables tested side by side with Monster on a few different occasions and always come up on par with, if not better than Monster.

I’ve run both Monster and my own cables in my home theater (42″ Plasma + surround sound) and I could find no difference at all. Real world testing… I run our stuff. Saves me a few hundred I can spend on new ‘woofers and DVD’s :)
