white and nerdy

I am on my laptop while I’m making pancakes. My level of dorkiness knows no bounds. But in my defense, these are special pancakes, and they take 2-4 minutes per side to cook. So yeah… 2-4 minutes per side of pancake, times twelve or so pancakes… equals a lot of minutes standing in the kitchen babysitting my stove.

Speaking of pancakes… I always use my grandmother’s recipe. It calls for sour cream, which I always thought was a bit odd. Then, the other day I was looking around for waffle recipes, and was disheartened to find that I did not have one key ingredient that most decent waffle recipes call for – buttermilk. Then I found that sour cream can be a substitute for buttermilk. Which begs the question… how did my grandmother really come up with this recipe? Did she really want to see what sour cream would do the taste and texture? Or was she just out of buttermilk?
I asked my mother, and she said that honestly she did know. It makes me sad to know that we’ll never know, since my grandmother is no longer alive. Sigh. I miss her…

I remember lots of Sunday mornings hovering around her in the kitchen, drooling along with the rest of my family over the delicious pancakes that she would be making. Now it’s my turn to make the pancakes and swat my family away from the stove, as they too are drooling over the same delicious pancakes that I’m making.

Home made pancakes are definitely something I make with love.

You’re just multi-tasking, that’s all! Pancakes and blogging are a good mix. I’ll take two fluffy pancakes please…

I love public relations!
