Fireplaces

A few months ago my husband and I had the opportunity to spend a few hours at a relatives home, relaxing and cuddling in front of a large fireplace situated in the living room. The fire was built up and safely contained behind a brass enclosure, and the glow of the flames dancing along the furniture and casting a warm glow throughout the room and on us was an experience to remember (and we have, vividly!).

Since then my husband has gone on and on about having a fireplace. Obviously, installing a fireplace in a rented home wasn’t feasible, as we did not have permission to make any alterations, and even if we did we were not going to spend that kind of money and make such a large investment in a home that wasn’t ours.

But now we have a home that is ours. And I kid you not, one of the first things my husband said to me about the living room (upon seeing it for the first time) was, “Jenn, we have room to put in a fireplace.” He has been planning out how we’ll put in our living room furniture so as to leave room along one wall for a fireplace. He has been asking me what color I want to paint the living room, so he knows what kind of brick and what color mantel to get so that everything will match.

When he gets home tonight, I’m going to show him DESA’s online store, which among other things offers a large variety of fireplace mantels. The site walks you through the process of building your fireplace. First you choose a firebox, which contains the fire. Then you would choose logs, which fuel the fire. Then comes the mantel – the most beautiful part of the fireplace, in my opinion. Knowing my husband, he would want the cherry arched cabinet mantel, whereas I would choose something a little simpler, such as the white mantel.

This site looks like it has everything needed to build a lovely fireplace. Free shipping is also offered, which helps to further the appeal of the site.
