Uhaul called this evening to verify our reservation for tomorrow. They also informed me that, oops, they double booked their 17′ truck. But no worries! We can have the 24′ truck for the 17′ rate. Um, yes, that’s all well and good except
1) will a 24′ truck even fit in the driveway of our new house?
2) how the hell are we going to maneuver a 24′ truck up the winding driveway of our current house?
3) a 24′ is bound to use up more gas than a 17′, which is more money out of our pockets
Grrr. I forgot to bring up the gas cost issue tonight. I definitely will tomorrow. I am not paying extra to fill up a monstrous truck because Uhaul can’t keep their bookings straight. And to think, I thought that booking two weeks in advance would prevent any problems like this!
Anyway. The evening is going to be spent packing up last minute things, doing the last bit of laundry, and disconnecting and carefully packing away the desktop computers. Later gators!

Oh, my. That sounds like an oh-so-lovely experience
Maybe you could nicely offer to give the larger truck to the other people involved in this fiasco? xD I hope your move goes smoothly!
Aw, that really sucks. I guess it’s nice to have a bigger truck but not if it causes a bunch of other problems.
Gah, I loathe UHaul. When Joe and I moved out of our house they gave us the run around with the gas. The gas gauge in the truck didn’t work right, so they kept insisting we used half a tank, which there was no way. They also charged us for 20 miles, when we only went about 12. I hope they don’t give you any hassle about the gas on the bigger truck!
Good luck with the move! You must be so excited
That sucks about the mix up, hopefully it will all work out for the better …
Eep. I hope that you guys can figure something out with the gas. Maybe they will gas it up for you? LOL. That would be nice.
Good luck with your move.
:-)
My, that’s frustrating! It’s nice that they gave you a bigger truck, but if you don’t NEED a bigger truck, it’s more of a hassle than anything else! Maybe you should clarify with them that you’re only paying the gas it would have cost for the other one or something!
Happy moving!!!
We had a similar mix up with Ryder (who I believe is no longer in business). I booked the truck a month in advance, and when I went to pick it up was told they didn’t have one and they were waiting for one to come in……from a place 4 hours away! Needless to say, I wasn’t particularly happy, especially since I had to pay the storage company guys $250 for standing around for 3 hours doing nothing!
They better reimburse you for that extra gas. Good thing we only use Enterprise. They’ll even come pick you up so that you can get your rental and take you home when you return it.
Heh. Good ol’ Uhaul. I booked a 17footer too and ended up with a 24 footer a few days before. Thankfully it worked out okay.
