Say a prayer.

I’m about to turn over my third baby, my beautiful, dependable, lovely laptop, over to my husband. He is going to use capable hands, screw drivers, and the instructions and guidelines outlined on this site to rip its guts out, clear out the dust and bits that is causing it to overheat and shut down, and then put it back together. Hopefully there are no casualties.

*gulp*

I bet that page is a life saver, I wouldn’t even know where to begin when it comes to taking apart a laptop. Installing some ram in my ibook was hard enough for me.

It really bothers me to see how much dust and muck gets caught up in there. I hope Dan can get it fixed!!!

I once took apart my keyboard to my desktop computer because I droped a bunch of food on it. When I put it back together I couldn’t get some of the keys to line up and type or I would have to push extremely hard to get it to type.

So my advice, be extremely careful around the keyboard!

Good luck! My husband tried to clean out his PC before and when he put it back together the hard drive wouldn’t read. I somehow (I’m not even sure how I did it) fixed it enough to where now every time he boots up he has to hit F1 for it to work. At least he didn’t lose all of his stuff!! haha!

Good luck! I know even places like Best Buy won’t even touch laptops. You have to have it mailed away to be cleaned. I did it twice.

I think it is very risky taking apart a laptop.

Good luck with that. My laptop was doing the same thing but I had it in bed with me – reason for that. It stopped once I put it on a flat unstuffy surface. I took my PC apart to “clean” it, it really wasn’t dirty but I thought since the fan wasn’t working maybe it was. Turns out it’s just the fan :-/. It sounds like a car trying to turn over. It’ll be sitting untouched for a while.
