Snip, snip

It was too beautiful of a day to resist the lure of being out and about. So Daniel and I packed up the kids and headed out. Ryan and I went shopping for Dan’s birthday present (he’s going to be 25 this Friday) while Dan and Alyssa went to get their hair cut. I loved Alyssa’s long hair, but was tired of battling with her over it. I’d fix it three, four, five times a day, and not five minutes after I finished brushing it and styling it, she’d have it ripped out and her hair would be all over the place.

After we met up, we drove over to Lowes. Five years ago I hated this place. Now? I love it. Along with the hefty mortgage payment and “Good god, what have we done?” that comes with being homeowners comes the joy and excitement of being able to fix things up. I swear, I could go through Lowes and find something in each aisle to buy.

We spent well over an hour in Lowes (again, five years ago I hated this place, and would have been itching to leave after five minutes of being there, if I managed to hold out that long). We left with mulch, fertilizer, grass seed, watering can, a solar powered LED butterfly light…thing, a new shower rod, a roll up shade for Alyssa’s bedroom window (she’s tearing the hell out of the blinds), an outlet receptacle and breaker for the behemoth of an air conditioner that I can’t wait to slap into the living room, a new light for our porch, a kitchen sink sprayer, and some other odds and ends.

We came back home and discouraged Ryan from eating the grass and let Alyssa run around while we raked up excess stuff from the yard, aerated soil, spread fertilizer, and mulched the empty bed that runs along the front of our house.

It’s quiet tonight… Dan is at work, and the kids are pretty pooped from running around all day and then playing all afternoon.

Reflecting on the last two entries: while I certainly appreciated the advice, opinions and input of all those who commented, I am also somewhat amused at how many people came crawling out of the woodwork at the hint of a bit of drama. :P

I actually think that hair style looks way good on her. It reminds me of the hair style Sydney had when she first got here. So cute. I uh gave up on combing her hair cause I’m that mommy, the one with the kid that has the wacky hair that never stays put. It’s long, thick, and curly. What can I really do but cut it off?

And bless you. You’re entry just made me realize that not only am I the average stay at home mom/marrie chick but that my child was not a demon at that age, or at 3 or right now. She tore the piss out of her blinds, so she could see outside was the story, but it was so she could have something to chew I think. Then again my kid chewed on her bed, mattress, etc. Ok maybe we’re not normal!

  2. Alyssa chews on books, remote controls, pillows and the edges of blankets. She also eats paper, especially construction paper (yay confetti poop).
I sometimes worry that if I sit still for too long she’ll start gnawing on me.

And I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who has dealt with the blinds issue! Her bedroom window is viewable from the road… I’m sure people wonder what the hell is up with my blinds and why I don’t replace them. But I have – this is the third set we’ve had up since moving here!

Drama is like leaving meat out in the sun. Expect many flies :)

Alyssa’s haircut is so cute! I love all the curlicues she’s got going on. Tres chic.

I have no kids, but my cats love, LOVE to chew on blinds. The blinds in the guest bedroom of our old house were shot to shit in large part because one of the cats in particular liked to wedge half of his body through the blinds and lie on top of them.

Oooh, I love Lowes. I walk through and pretend I’m rich and imagine what things I would buy to build my new multi-million dollar home. Sad? Maybe. But at least it keeps me entertained for a while.

    Lowes is awesome.

Alyssa’s hair looks great! I contemplated cutting Taylors.. but I want those darn bangs to grow out and I love being able to put her hair up. Blah. I just have to deal with comments like “Wow, her bangs are over her eyes!” You know, like I didn’t already notice that, being her mom and everything. I just want them to grow out, and she won’t keep a hair band or clips in her hair for an extended period of time.

Aww, Alyssa’s haircut is super adorable! I love it! I was not a fan of Home Depot or Lowes until I started helping redecorate my parent’s house. It’s definitely handy for things like that!

We’ve had to replace the blinds in our livingroom once already from Jordan destroying them. Ross is also really bad for pressing half of them down to peek outside and be nosy when he hears a commotion. lol.

I think her hair looks so adorable, and it definitely suits her cute little face!

I think her new haircut is sooooooo adorable Jenn! It’s also nice that she’ll have shorter hair for the “summer”.. tehe! All that playing and running she’ll want to do outside will feel so much better without the long hair.. :D

I used to hate Lowe’s too. Now I love it! I love any “home” type store though.. haha

There are PEOPLE in your woodwork?! I think they make a spray for that. ;)

Alyssa’s hair is adorable. Cassidy prefers her hair short too. I acutally really like short hair I just don’t have the face for it at all.
