There’s nothing quite like cruising along a dark, empty back road at about 50mph, only to come around a curve and slam on the brakes, because straight ahead is a herd of cows that got loose.

My heart about jumped out of my chest upon seeing these cows trotting around the road in front of me. One came barreling towards me, obviously angry to have my high beams in its eyes, but veered off towards the field it came from. As I sat there, along with a car on the opposite side of the road, watching the farmer and his wife try and herd the would-be-escapees back to their field, I happened to glance up in my rear-view mirror. Damned if there wasn’t another cow coming full throttle down the road, right towards me. My car is black, and I had turned off the lights (so as not to further confuse the cows in front of me), so I’m assuming the cow didn’t see me. Thankfully, the farmer saw the crash that was about to occur, and ran and waved the cow away.
Thank god. My stationery 1200 lb. car vs. a fast moving 1300 lb. cow? I don’t think the outcome would have been very pretty. Or very repairable.

And hey, good news! My mom found my iPod. I guess it fell out of my purse when I was over at her house last month, because she found it on the floor of the closet near the front door. Yayness. I went and retrieved it tonight, and am currently transferring music from it to my laptop as we speak. Good times. ?

P.S. I’ll post the DiTL photos in the morning; I’m too tired to mess around with them right now!

ACK! Cows. LOL We’ve had a few instances like that here in Iowa, although usually we don’t find cows in the road. My favorite was the bull in the cemetery. Someone’s bull got loose and decided that one of our local cemeteries was “the” place to be! They had a heck of a time catching that bugger! LOL

Hahaha, reminds me of the first time I ever drove a car. It was June after my 15th birthday and we went out on back roads… and there were calves all over the roads that had no idea what to do with a large vehicle coming at them. I’m surprised none of them ran into the car on their own honestly. Bleh. Cows.

    Congrats finding the ipod!

*laughs* In rural Auckland you can get problems like that. My boyfriend’s parents have a farm and his mum was telling me about how one time, they let a few of their cows out the front of their property to eat the grass on the edge of the road (because when it gets too dry there’s not enough feed for them). Apparently a bike race was scheduled to go through the area, but Christine didn’t know, and the cows caused a whole pileup :S A bit of a funny story, but potentially painful :p

Yay for finding the iPod. it’s such a great feeling to find something that you think you’ve lost. :)

LOL I can sympathize! We live in rural NC & there are cow & sheep farms down the highway. Fun stuff =)

Yikes! We only have ducks, dogs and possums. Unfortunately they get run over.

  6. We have those problems in Michigan, too. I’ve actually hit an escaped cow before, too. It really isn’t a pretty site.. especially for the car!

    Grats ont he ipod.

Animals in the road get pretty annoying. It’s actually entirely too common.
Unfortunately sometimes they get hit and Jay, as a cop, has to go and put them out of their misery.. :( Cows have thick heads.

Even when I lived in the country, I never had to worry about a herd of cows. You had to watch out for deer (of course), the random chicken, or maybe a horse that broke out. The most interesting was an emu that ran across the road RIGHT in front of the car.

Not only in [private]. lol Happens here in Fallston, MD too. :) I’ve definitely had that almost EXACT thing happen. Only I came around the corner to cows sleeping in the road. -nods-

And my boyfriend almost hit a horse once.

    Silly farm animals.
