I seriously want a Canon Rebel. For those of you with this camera, or a similiar camera, and/or knowledge of DSLRs in general, please, give me advice, tips, suggestions. I’m tentatively delving into the DSLR waters; thus far I’ve only had experience with P&S cameras (Fuji Finepix 2650, Kodak EasyShare Z740, HP Photosmart R967).
I’m very tempted to sell my current cameras (Kodak & HP) to get together about $500. As for the rest… well… Mother’s Day gift-buying money could be set aside, and my 23rd (23rd!!!) birthday is coming up in June…

My teacher has this camera and he says it’s one of the best ever.
I have Canon PowerShot G6. Another teacher keeps telling me how he loves his camera which is exactly like mine, and he won’t shut up. All Canon cameras are the best and without a doubt, you should buy this :D
Canon cameras are very good, but if you want the best DSLR then you’ll want a Nikon. Canon and Nikon are very close in terms of quality and technology and everything, but Nikons are an all-round better camera. Better lens, better CCD, better battery life, and more advanced technologies, alhough they’re slightly more expensive (with good reason). If you want to pov out slightly and go for a Canon you won’t be disappointed, but if you want the absolute best get a Nikon.
I have a Nikon D50. It’s great. I have quite some friends with Nikon SLR and they are all very pleased with them. But I also have two friends with a Canon 350d and they are very pleased as well. There isn’t a lot of difference between these camera’s (Canon’s colors are better). If you stick with these two brands, it’ll be just fine.
But before you by a SLR, make sure that you know what you’re stepping into. A SLR isn’t that easy to carry around with you everywhere in your purse and it takes skills to make pictures with them, unless you leave them on automatic of course.
To add on to what Michael said: it’s a hard decision between Nikon and Canon. I’ve read the same number of good and bad from both on many different DSLR’s. I really wanted the Canon 30D but my lovey didn’t want to pay that much so then it was between the Rebel and Nikon D40. I went with the D40. It’s a really nice camera, but I still don’t really know what I’m doing.
And I think the Nikon D40 is great for a beginner like me.
That was suppose to be good and bad reviews.
I ‘ve had quite a few cameras, my Nikon D50 is BY FAR my favorite =)
I have a rebel, I’m still learning. I’m currently looking for an affordable zoom lens that zooms further than the stock lens. Your profits will get you this: http://www.expresscameras.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=306293&start=1
I got mine at Walmart in a hurry and I just WISH I’d done more research.
i have a canon 20D, i was going to get a rebel… but my mom decided to spend the extra couple hundred bucks and get me a 20D. its an amazing camera, i really love it, but id advise keeping a small P&S even if you get a nice DSLR. reason being, most DSLRs are pretty big, and while they are amazing cameras, are hard to bring along with you EVERYWHERE. i just got a teensy tiny P&S to kepe in my purse so i can take those impromptu shots of me and my friends/etc whenever i feel like it, but my DSLR is my #1 camera choise when i go somewhere knowing im going to want to take photos. i bring it on my vacations, etc. but every day photos? like if you ran to walmart and your kid did something cute and you wanted a picture of it? youd def want to have a P&S, because chances are you wont bring your DSLR with you all the time.
just my 2 cents

choice* (geeze, im on a roll today arent i?)
Get a Nikon D50. They’re about $100 cheaper, and they have amazing quality. I don’t currently own one, but I’m going into photography, and that’s the camera I’m going to buy.
I’ve also heard from a friend who owns one that they’re simple to use.
Hi Jen, I’ve contacted you twice via email last week in regards to the message board you are designing for lipsticktocrayons.com but haven’t heard back from you. I’m pretty sure I have the right email addy. Please contact me and let me know the status of the project. I need it done ASAP. If you’ve got too much going on please let me know so I can make other arrangements.
(don’t buy a camera from express cameras, that someone suggested. just google express cameras scam :))
anyway, if you want a good middle of the road P&S/DSLR try out the canon s2. or s3. you can get the s2 cheaper since it’s “last years” model. i want an nikon dslr SO bad, but told myself i have to figure out how to use my 35mm rebel first. the s2 is a good “starter” camera for someone wanting to step up later on. & only about $300. but DO NOT buy from camera shops online without searching for “scams” first. because my mom tried to order the s2 for me for about $100 less than retail & it was a scam. luckily they didnt charge her CC for trips to the bahamas, like they had other people..
