I suspect Murphy’s hand in this

Why is it that when I resolve to get back on the band wagon to start losing weight (June 1st is my starting day!), I got hit with a major chocolate craving? Bad Jenn, bad, bad, bad. Of course, I do have two more days to splurge. :P But no. I’m going to try my best to be good.

For those of you that have done it, is WeightWatchers worth the investment? I was looking at their online plans, and thinking about the Flex plan. It’s either that or counting calories (rather than points) and logging the information at my-calorie-counter.com. And yes, I realize that I can look up points plans elsewhere, but 1) WW has plans specifically for breastfeeding mothers and 2) being held “accountable” (by having to log in and track my progress) is what works well for me, hence why I’m looking at WW and m-c-c.com.

Oh, and can you tell I’m growing out my natural color? I think the overall length is pretty impressive, considering that my last dye was in mid July of 2006. Funny how I never noticed the horrid contrast between the dyed hair and the natural hair. Even more horrid is how attempts to dye my hair varying shades of plum/very deep red and rich black cherry always fade out to such an icky orange-y color.

I get the same problem: As soon as I start dieting I get terrible sugar cravings. I think i’m mildly diabetic and shake when my glucose levels are too low – It happens quite frequently when i begin to diet.

If you’re getting the chocolate cravings, perhaps fill a jar with chocolate chips. Every time you get a craving, just have one or two and suck on them – the flavour generally gets rid of the craving

Really though, you look so healthy and much more fit in your most recent photos – Clearly mother hood is having a great impact on you :D You look wonderful.

have you considered just dying your hair to a colour really similar to your natural colour so the change in colour isnt so drastic?

I thought Weight Watchers was a bit of a rip off, the food was expensive and so were they and I found a lot of their products, like the low fat chocolate chip cookies weren’t they great and if you diet properly, you can allow yourself one or two normal cookies a day anyway. I don’t think any diet should make you deny yourself anything, so I’d suggest just sticking to a calorie controlled scheme. I have 1200 calories a day and 40 grams of fat a day and stay under the 90 gram allowance of sugar and make sure I get 5 bits of fruit and veg. Also been doing exercise too, and I’ve been steadily losing 2 – 3lbs a week which is a safe amount.

You and me both, Jenn. I promised I’d start the day after my high school graduation (June 1st). I’ve lost just about 10 pounds, but the way that I was keeping it off was unhealthy…so even though I know I’m going to gain at least four more pounds over the next few days (sigh), at least I won’t be doing any more damage to my teeth or throat.

MMMMmm.. chocolate! I haven’t been able to cut it out of my life- even after radically changing my eating habits!

  5. I personally liked/didnt like weight watchers (going there, wasting 12 for someone to weight me, when I can do it at home). I was on Jenny craig too, but that got way too $$$ its like $60 a week! Crazy. You can do weight watchers on your on, there is alot of good links i can send you if your interested, I am thinking maybe about trying it too.. June 1st sounds like a good plan. Another good tip, write everything down.

  6. yes, i’d say the points system is the best way to go if you’re going to do weight watchers. my best friend lost 40 pounds and my friend at work lost 90 pounds in only a year…..
i’m dieting myself. i’ve lost 4 pounds since friday by only watching what i eat, how much i eat, drinking a ton of water and getting LOTS of exercise. it’s hard, it really is. and it takes some serious willpower. i’ve giving up on everything that i love. candy, soda, junk food, everything. but you just gotta tell yourself that it’ll be worth. everytime i get a craving i just think about how happy i’ll be once i get to my goal weight…..

The way that your hair’s growing out makes it looks like you got your ends dyed. It looks nice. Brunette power! lol That was cheeesy.

I’m currently on the Flex Plan, and I’ve lost 10.2lbs in three weeks.

And I can tell you right now why some people don’t like it and/or quit.

First of all, you’re not just paying money for them to weigh you and then leave. You’re paying money for the support of a group setting, all the people in the room are striving for the very same goal that you are. The meetings share tips on conquering your cravings or urges, good recipes, and just overall encouragement.

You don’t have to buy “their food” either… and honestly, they don’t have a full line of meals, so you’d be limited to their frozen dinners, snacks, and wraps.

That’s why you’re given books on all foods, how many points are in what, and when you start to see numbers you’ll think, “Do I really want that chocolate that bad?”. And if the answer is yes, don’t just go out and buy some cheap chocolate bar — buy a rich piece of chocolate and savor it.

If you’re doing the Flex Plan, not only do you get your daily target points, you get 35 extra points to spread over the week (or all at once, if you’re going out for a big dinner etc.).

Joining WW was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I look forwards to my weekly meetings (tonight is my next one, actually).

I guess when I started to see those first pounds comes off, I saw hope, and I just knew that I was on the road to making myself more healthy. I always keep in mind, I don’t want my daughter to grow up and think that it’s okay to be this overweight. I also don’t want to have a heart attack before I’m 25.

I joined WW in Feb., and I just recently stopped paying for it. I went long enough to get the journal, booklets, etc. you get each week (10 weeks). The meetings are actually free, and you don’t have to be a member to go and sit in on them. So, I decided that since I have all the materials, I would just keep tracking my points and weigh myself at home. I still make the meetings every once in a while.

It is a good program to get started eating healthier. At first, I thought it may become more of a chore having to carry my books with me to look up every food and count every lil point. But the longer you do it, the more you learn how any points foods are, and you can keep a running total in your head so you can write it all down when you get home.

And like Ashley said, you don’t have to live off their food b/c they don’t offer that much. I eat their frozen dinners for lunch, and sometimes there muffins for breakfast. I personally like their food.

I’ve been doing Weight watchers for about a year and a half now. Some of those times I was slacking off and not dedicated to it fully. I’ve lost a total of 76 pounds and it’s easy, it really is easy. There are some days where I’m all, “Omg if I don’t have something sweet, I’m going to kill myself or someone else,” and I manage my points around it. I have whatever it is I’m craving and all is right with the world again.

Personally, I don’t go to meetings and I don’t pay for the on-line program. I found all the information I need on the internet and I’m part of some WW’er LJ communities. I save money this way while I still get the motivation and support that I need.

I’m a full supporter of WW’ers as it’s the only thing I’ve tried that has worked for me. I have the flexibility to eat pretty much whatever I want within reason. I’d recommend at least giving it a shot.

I seriously LOVE Weight Watchers. I have tried so many things in the past and this has just really done wonders for me. It has really made me feel so much more confident about myself and the best thing of all is it’s so easy to do. If you have any specific questions let me know and I will try to answer them as best I can. I like your natural hair color, too.

I stopped dying my hair right around the same time. And mine looks exactly like yours. Only, you know, not as good. I hatehatehate this two-tone thing, I can’t wait for all the red/blonde to be gone.

I haven’t done weight watchers but I really think it’s the way to go. Counting calories is obsessive and doesn’t take into account other important things, like what sort of nutrition is in the foods in the first place. Maybe it’s because I have a handful of anorexic friends who count their calories and then look at the calorie count on the treadmill to make sure they burn off every one. Craziness.

With weight watchers, you’re taught to moderate, taught that filling a craving is not a bad thing, and that the important thing is not to starve yourself or limit all the things you love (which never works). I like the idea.

Myself, I do eDiets.com. It’s cheaper than WW, and you have to log in and weigh in to get the next week’s meal plans, so you are held accountable for your weight loss. Plus it gives you exercise programs based on what you put in that you like to do for exercise.

  17. WW has been very beneficial for a few friends I know who have tried it.
