Thank your lucky stars

At the end of every day I stop and reflect on just how good I have it. “It” being my life – Dan, and our two healthy, beautiful children. I chastise myself on taking things for granted, or sweating the small stuff. I get frustrated over Alyssa’s continual whining (she has been a whiny child since birth!), but if that’s the worst thing for us to deal with, then so be it. My daughter may whine at the drop of a hat and turn on the waterworks to elicit comfort and sympathy from her daddy or her grandmother, but she’s healthy and otherwise happy, and always makes me laugh with her mischievous and endearing antics.

And Ryan? Excuse my favoritism coming out here, but that boy is a balm to my sometimes frazzled nerves. He is quick with a smile that could melt a glacier. His grins, giggles and chuckles are quick and constant. He is the happiest baby I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. People remark upon it all the time – he is almost always smiling, or at least looking around with a very pleasant expression on his face. He has a very mellow and sweet personality, and while I’m sometimes slightly annoyed with his need to have me within sight and preferably touch, I secretly hope he’ll always be such a loving child.

What brought on these thoughts tonight? What made me blog them? I’m watching a Discovery Health show on a large family who recently brought home twins that were delivered at 24 weeks gestation. I’m so thankful that I’ve never had to deal with genuinely fragile, sick children who are only a breath away from death. I had no major complications with either pregnancy. Despite the length and excruciating labor with Alyssa, she was born healthy, and I bounced back quickly. Ryan’s birth was obviously more stressful for me, and the recovery was longer and painful, but again – that was for me. Ryan was fine.
At two and a half and just about eleven months respectively, neither Alyssa nor Ryan have been seriously ill. I can count on one hand the number of times they have both been sick with minor sniffles or a fever – and Ryan has just one of those times. I find that rather impressively, especially when you take into consideration that I worked around the general public and handled (filthy!) money until Alyssa was a year and a half, and Dan still works with the general public and money.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have two darling babies to check on and kiss. Each night between the time when Alyssa and Ryan go to bed and I finally go to bed, I check on each of them at least twice – covering them, adjusting the temperatures in their room, kissing their foreheads, etc. Tonight is no exception. I guess it’s a Mom thing. ♥

keeping with grand tradition everyone says that boys are way easier and more enjoyable than girls. not that you don’t love the girls just as much, but boys are so much more laid back. As you know, girls are drama and whiny. It’s a 2-4 year old thing, or at least I hope I get a break between 4 and 12.

I keep asking myself why I want another one? Double the work and double the fun!

Its not that Ryan is your Favorite, Its just they both have qualities that make them your favorite for different reasons. I have 1 daughter and 2 nieces and 1 nephew and i have to say there all my favorite for different reasons. And You are BLESSED! You have a loving husband and 2 very beautiful children.

My mother used to do that all the time, little did she know that most of the time we “felt” her check on us, it was comforting.

And you are very blessed to have such a beautiful family ^_^

I always think there’s nothing to worry about if you and everyone you love is alive and healthy. I do worry anyways. I just try to remember that.

My friend always tells me boys are worse. I KNOW first hand her boy is worse than her girl. OMG he is a handful.

It’s nice to see someone appreciate what they have in life instead of whining about what they don’t have.

And yes, I received a referral bonus – thanks :) I’m glad you’re enjoying it. I was confused at first, as in the “I haven’t blogged for you again … did I?” haha

Your children are so cute!! Ryan’s smile looks like it could be addictive. Everytime I look at your pictures and see his smiling face (in just about every pic you have on here, he’s smiling!) I smile too!! :)

  7. I still check on Cassidy at night before I go to bed then in the morning before I leave for work. And I have to climb the ladder and crawl half way into the loft bed to do it. There is just something SO POWERFULLY WONDERFUL about sleeping babies. And yes, she’s eight. But she’s still my baby. :cute:
