A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
I told my mother that tonight, after she called me asking me to take her to Wal-Mart. My oldest younger brother is turning twelve tomorrow, and despite having all week to get to the bank, my mom never did. So here it is, Saturday night, late, and I’m expected to drop everything and play taxi because she has no cash until Monday.
Dammit, I really don’t feel like going out. I was out earlier this evening for a nice dinner at Red Lobster (Dan’s aunt treated us, Dan’s two sisters, two brothers and the one brother’s girlfriend, Dan’s mom and Dan’s uncle – over $200 when it was all said and done! ) and a quick run to Target for a few hair products (I CAN NOW USE REGULAR SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER, HALLELUJAH!).
But she’s my mom, and I’d feel really bad if my brother didn’t have anything for his birthday, so taxi I will play.
Sigh.
So funny – the other night at the grocery store Alyssa and I walked by an Amish man (not an uncommon occurrence – around here Amish are as plentiful as us “English” people). Alyssa turns to me and says, “Mommy, where is his horse?” Should I be amused or slightly embarrassed that she is so quick to be able to classify people by their mode of transportation?
Very early this morning (around 2am), Ryan woke up screaming. He has never woken up like that, ever. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong… I checked his diaper, changed him, wrapped him in a blanket, then held him and fed him, then held him some more while I talked to Dan. The thought running through my mind at the time was a fear that he had eaten something he found on the floor and it was painfully working its way through his body. But I know for a fact that there is nothing like that on the floor to pick up, because I scour the floors and the areas immediately around, under and behind furniture for anything that isn’t Bean (nickname) friendly. And he fell back asleep, and then this morning he was back to his cheerful, bubbly self. Weird.

Sydney did that a few times. It was rare though. We chalked it up to bad dreams. One time we closed the closet because she was too young to tell us what was going on but it seemed to work. And she dreams a lot, she tells us about them all the time. They usually consist of dinosaurs. Something probably just spooked him!
Yeah, I was going to say bad dreams too. Poor Ryan. The Amish thing I find pretty amusing. It’s cute that she’s made that connection, anyway. Shows some smarts. As for moms? Eh. Don’t even get me started.
That’s so funny what Alyssa said. And yeah, I say bad dreams too. Although, I can’t see Ryan screaming…all I ever see is him smiling.
Probably a little night terror, poor lil muffin. You’re a good mommy to comfort him and worry so.
Awww poor Ryan, hope he is feeling better. I would be so nervous, i would be crying too
Maybe Ryan was just having a bad dream? Hopefully it won’t be a regular thing for you. Ethan wakes up in the middle of the night screaming all the time & I definitely would not wish it upon other parents!
I chalk it up to bad dreams too. Something scared him and his way to tell you he was scared was to start screaming. And sorry about your mom, I know how those kinds of situations are.
Why can’t you use regular shampoo and conditioner? How is Target’s not regular?
As soon as I read what you said about Ryan, I thought it may have just been a bad dream, too.
Marie – maybe she meant to write “I can NOW use regular shampoo and conditioner”? That’s what I thought, anyway…
maybe your son had a bad dream or something.
lol @ you daughter, she’s a smart girl! i didn’t know what amish people were until 4 years ago……..
you did the right thing for you mother, so glad i’m not alone. she expects me to be ‘respondsible’ and yet she acts more like the irrespondsible child. good job!
so i’m not the ONLY one that got sick of my long hair (i realize i’m late but i just got back from vacation and had to comment) it looks great
Haha, what your daughter said was cute. Believe me, my summer job is as a cashier at a grocery store, and some parents have much more to be embarrassed about. The worst part is many of them don’t even know it. But I suppose that’s not as embarrassing as adults who are even less mature than their children… really, you’d be surprised.
My daughter is two months old and does the same thing from time to time. Based on what I’ve read, it’s probably nightmares. She’ll wake up screaming out of nowhere, and I have to hold her and talk her through it, and then she goes right back to sleep like nothing happened. Sometimes she doesn’t even open her eyes, she just cries in a way that scares me and then is suddenly quiet and sleep. I know she did that once before when I accidently made a lot noise that scared her while she slept. She screamed and cried (with her eyes closed) for about five minutes despite me holding, rocking, and talking to her. I felt so terrible. Poor Ryan, and poor Mommy.
He probably had a bad dream. When my daughter wakes up screaming that is usually why. I hope he is over the awful experience.
Aww, my daughter’s nickname is Bean
You are too nice a person, whether she was my Mam or not, I would be all “no, I am having a lazy night” with a young child I am sure you deserve it.
