Tonight was… wonderful. Amazing. Beautiful. Quiet. Peaceful. Fun!
No car seats, no diaper bags, no kids. No stopping for diaper changes. No requesting a booth in a corner of the restaurant so I can nurse Ryan as discreetly as possible. No sippy cup refills. No repeated, “Alyssa, do not eat the crayons” and “Alyssa, use your fork!”.
No shopping cart at the store filled to the brim with baby and toddler.
We had such a good night. We went to the adult shop first. Fun times! We picked out treats for ourselves and treats for both of us. The clerk, a fifties or so grandmother with nine grandchildren, proudly told us about the great prices in their shop (“especially on glass butt plugs!” ). She recommended “Liquid V” to me, handed Dan a tongue vibrator to try out (ooh, the possibilities), commended me on my choice of waterproof toys (“Great for hanging in the shower!” ), and informed us on the buy-one-get-one-free specials on the movies.
$100 and a bag full of treats later, we headed out to dinner. Dinner was… fantastic. And delicious! A booth for two. Secluded, quiet, romantic.
Then a quick shopping jaunt. We bought a toy for Alyssa, a tool box for Dan, movies (I want to start collecting Disney movies! So far we have Peter Pan and now Cinderella), milk and more lens cloths (with each of us sporting glasses that cost over $300 each you better believe we’re taking good care of them!).
Home. More peace, quiet and great sex. Bed for Dan, and now, after wrapping up some more work, bed for me.

My mother-in-law told me that Carl and I need to do that every month so our relationship doesn’t fall apart. We actually went out by ourselves for the first time in two years on saturday. It was weird being with out the kids. Like you said there was no “Don’t eat the crayon” going on.
