Guardianship hearing

I’ve been up since 6:30. Ew. I’m probably going to go back to bed, but I won’t be able to sleep for too long, as I have a custody hearing to attend later this afternoon.

The custody hearing? It’s for my grandfather. See, while he was delirious and in all likelihood near death thanks to that out of control bladder infection that spiraled out of control and into septicemia, one of the hospital doctors decided that he was mentally incompetent and petitioned the court to take medical/financial custody of him. Funny, the only person I would label incompetent is the so-called “professional” who failed to diagnose a bladder infection before discharging my grandfather from the hospital the first time.

Anyway. The agency that oversees the medical/financial responsibilities and such of people like my grandfather has assured us that this was a silly move on the doctor’s part, and once the judge looks over the paperwork and hospital information and sees my grandfather for himself, he’ll restore all of his rights to him. Just the same, my mother and I want to be there, for moral support and all that jazz.

That’s crazy. I don’t think that he should have been allowed to do that.

That’s pure craziness. No way that the doctor has any chance. Good luck!

Thats effed up. But you know what, If I was hospitalized with a blader infection like he had, I’d probably be pretty out of it and doctors might think I’m medically incompitent too.

When I was hospitalized for a kidney infection (a bladder infection that moves right back up into your kidney aka one HELLUVA bladder infection) I was FAR from sane… I’ll tell you that. My brain felt disconnected from my body, which I think had a lot to do with my fever… it was horrible. Although… I’m not sure if that warrants being declared mentally instable…

I have never heard of a doctor petitioning for guardianship of a person. This has got to be a stupid person. I’m sorry that’s just messed up. I have seen doctors inform family that if there is not a person in charge they need to get the paperwork together and it filed because of the person’s state and that they are going to be unable to make decisions for whatever amounts of time, but a doctor?

So like was this doctor going to oversee your grandpa’s daily well being and pay all his bills for him? And everything else it takes to be a guardian? I am a guardian and believe me it’s not something I’d want to just go hey Jenn can I be your grandpa’s guardian?

You need to turn this doctor into the hospital administration when it’s all said and done. And update us, I’m really curious as to what happens in court and if the judge rips the doctor.

  6. I cannot believe your grandfather would even have to dragged in for something like this. I would be off my rocker too if I were as sick as he, due to the negligence of the doctors!! I hope everything turns out for the best.. I will be keeping you in my thoughts!
