The hearing did not go as expected. My grandfather’s doctor, whom I have never met, and my mother hasn’t even heard of, made all sorts of accusations and denied any knowledge of a bladder infection and instead attributed my grandfather’s septicemia as the result of him missing a dialysis appointment (which he blamed my mother for). And an agency intervening on my grandfather’s behalf misrepresented several things.
The result? For now, my grandfather has been declared mentally incapacitated. The term grates, especially on him.
So, for the time being, it looks as though my grandfather will remain in the nursing home. While this nursing home is a very nice one – very clean, the nurses are actually very attentive, the rooms are more cozy, and because therapy animals are brought in daily we can bring Squeaky and my mother’s cat, Max – it is still a nursing home. The restrictions drive my grandfather crazy. And because this nursing home is farther away, we are only able to visit him once or twice a week.
My week in a nutshell: not enough sleep, too much running around, period, and now a stomach bug. Hooray. Oh, and I ran out of tampons. I dug around the entire house and unearthed two light absorbency tampons. Light? Light!? Perhaps if I taped the two of them together (an image of those double popsicles comes to mind) it could work. Otherwise I would be springing a leak within an hour. But taping two together would result in a rather wide shaped tampon. And four? While that would be the Tampon Extreme, and could most likely stop up a dam, its size would rival dildos. So no, I don’t think four would work, either. Believe it or not, as unappealing and cumbersome as it sounds, cloth diapers do work in a pinch. Or in my case, long enough for me to hightail it to the store for tampons and back.
Anyway. Enough lazing about on my part. While this is the first time I have sat in one spot for more than five minutes today (with the exception of the time spent driving all over the county), I have many things to take care of tonight before I can fall into bed for a few blissful hours of sleep.

Nursing homes suck I can see why he’s not happy. I don’t get the whole thing at all. He doesn’t sound mentally incapacitated to me, but hopefully this can be cleared up soon and it can all get back to normal.
Do you or your mother have Power of Attorney over your grandfather? I would look into that if I were you, concidering you said that the doctors have labeled him mentally incapacitated. You do not want the doctors making “the best decisions for your grandfather” …
Tampons… Eeeevil tampons… I always seemed to run out of the ones I wanted to use right when I most wanted to use ‘em. I do NOT miss the effers.
That really sucks about your grandfather… There HAS to be something that they can do! ARGH! Doctors are evil sometimes.
Aidan is exactly right with the power of attorney thing. I can only speak from personal experience that when my father in law died he had left his eldest son in charge of things because he was the oldest at the time and never had the chance to change it even though he wanted to. Things got really, really nasty and the attorney who handled things refused to even speak to my husband about the matter because although he was legally entitled to a third of everything he was not that POA. It was really, really sad.
Sorry about your grandfather. The agency who are dealing with him seem like idiots tbh :/ Must be very frustrating for you, I hope it all turns out ok in the end.
That ‘double tampon popsicle’ made me LOL at bit too loudly XD

That make me mad about your grandfather. That doctor should be sued for not catching the bladder infection. I can’t believe he got away with it.
You should get some rest. you deserve it
