While I’m obviously not looking for senior care in New York City, my mother and I may be looking at senior care in Pennsylvania, at least, down the line. My grandfather is in a nursing home right now, but his stay there is for rehabilitation purposes only. Once his foot’s amputation site fully heals, and his kidneys improve a bit more, he will most likely be released and be able to come home. Meanwhile, he is biding his time, and we go to see him as often as we can. It isn’t easy, with four kids between my mother and I, and me working almost full time hours here at home, but we get out there once a week or so.
It’s hard to have a loved one in a nursing home. Sometimes it’s the best place for them to be, other times it may not be the best place, but for the time being it’s better than nothing. In my grandfather’s case, he is not happy to be where he’s at, but we know it is the best place for him while his foot heals.
