Simon says, “I’m gorgeous, look at me, admire me.”

My tiny, fit-in-the-palm-of-your-hand itty bitty kitten has disappeared. In its place is a hulking, waddling, hopping, jumping and playing kitten who is very quickly turning into one gorgeous cat! And he is still such a sweetheart. Always happy, always purring, always coming around to be petted, or to grace my lap with his presence. And he still dogs Kirin, who is acting almost dog-like himself. He follows me everywhere, comes when I call him the few times he isn’t right with me, and generally lays all over me. I don’t know what flipped the affectionate switch in him, but I love it. I just feel bad that he isn’t that way towards Dan, to whom Kirin is supposed to “belong”.

Anyway, as of five ‘o clock or so today, I was indeed a very happy girl. I had just started dinner for the kids and myself when the doorbell rang. I answered the door, expecting my mother or a neighbor or a salesperson (we get the ones selling huge slabs of meat out of their trucks), but definitely not Dan! I squealed and went right into his open arms, and then practically dragged him into the house, where the kids started squealing and shrieking and chattering and babbling in excitement.
Dan said that he and his brothers came back on Tuesday morning, rather than Thursday morning, because it was cold and wet and raw, and they weren’t having a lot of fun outside of bonding with each other and their uncles and grandfather and a few other guys that were there. For his sake I wish he had been able to enjoy himself until Thursday, but I would be lying if I said I’m not happy to have him home two days early! ♥

Okay, on to the browser I mentioned last night, Flock. Flock is based off of Firefox. So not only does it function in the same way as Firefox, with the basics set up the same way and the typical buttons and options in all of the same places, but most Firefox extensions and plugins will work in Flock! I tested this, and am pleased to report that with the exception of three extensions (Always Remember Password, Launchy and Linky), all of the extension I had for my installation of Firefox work perfectly for Flock!

So far, I like Flock. I admit that it is a little slower to load and sometimes slower to run than Firefox, but I want to test it out on my desktop before I really put all of my weight into that opinion. While my laptop has the same amount of RAM as my desktop, it is still not as fast (I think this is partly due to the fact that I have used 76gigs of the 80gig hard drive – I’m aiming for a new hard drive for Christmas!).
Minor slowness issues aside, Flock is great. It is self-described as the social web browser, and I can definitely see why. It integrates nicely with all sorts of social websites, including Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, YouTube, Photobucket, Blogger, LiveJournal, WordPress(.com), social bookmarking websites and even self-hosted blogs (bare bones posting editor).

It’s only my second day of using Flock, so this is definitely not a complete review, but my thoughts so far. I have a few screenshots posted at Flickr with some notes and info on them; they’re available here.

Aww Simon is such a cutie! And Hooray for Dan coming home early :) I bet that was a surprise!

As for flock – I quite like it too, but i think it’s too overwhelming for me. I use it to upload photos to flickr and occasionally view photostreams, but the abundance of features just overwhelms me somewhat. Still, a really great step – “Social browser” indeed.

Simon is ADORABLE!! Is he a Himalayan? I love long-haired cats. I have one that is a Maine Coon. Her tail looks alot like a raccoons tail. :-)

Yay for your husband being home 2 days early!!!

  3. Hi Sarah! Thank you. He is so photogenic lately… I’m loving it! Kirin isn’t wanting to sit still, and Blueboy has taken up hibernation under our bed, so thank goodness I have ONE cat who will cooperate!

I admit, when I first tried out Flock last night, I got a headache trying to figure out all of the features. I finally closed everything but the sidebar and main browsing tab, and worked from there. Now I’m starting to figure things out, and I really like it. I’m going to try out Flock on my desktop too – hopefully it’s faster on there, because I really do like this browser!

  4. Hi Stephanie, thanks for your comment! Simon is a shaded silver. I do love Himalayans though, and Maine Coons as well! My brother-in-law has a Maine Coon cat that Dan and I took in while we still lived in Pittsburgh. We gave Goliath (aptly named; at the time he was tiny but now he is HUGE!) to Dan’s brother in September or so of 2003, but we still see him every little bit. Maine Coons are awesome. :)

And double yay. We’re so happy! :D

I’ve always been a fan of firefox but your continued love of Flock makes me curious. I know one day I’m going to burst and download it. Haha. It looks pretty awesome.
