Back from the abyss

Thursday night was hell. I felt fine all day – tired, but normal. Then Thursday evening I started feeling kind of “meh”. The fun started after I put Alyssa and Ryan to bed at 9:30pm. Of course they both gave me a hard time with going to bed. Ryan had to be re-tucked twice, Alyssa wanted a cup of water, a quick story, a hug, and kiss, and then some more kisses. It’s a very good thing I learned how to “hold back” with throwing up until I have the time and place to do so. Sounds weird, I know… it’s an “ability” that I picked up when I was pregnant with Alyssa. It’s a great thing to be able to do, especially if you’re out at a store, in the car, or reading a bedtime story.

I finally was released from my misery when I fell asleep around 4am. The kids had us up at 11am. I was very tired, weak, shaky and all that jazz, but I was alive. I dragged myself out of bed, got the kids settled with breakfast and cartoons, and then hit the bathroom. After cleaning and disinfecting and nearly stunning myself senseless with the smell of chemicals, I took a nice, long shower, and then got dressed. And as part of my morning routine, I weighed myself. I lost 5.2 lbs. between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Sounds nice and healthy, doesn’t it? Sadly, I know that a lot of that was water weight, as I woke up Friday morning VERY dehydrated. Gums were very pale, eyes were very dry (I waited over an hour to put my contacts in, and even after several rounds of eye drops I still had a hell of a time getting them to stick to my eyes!). I spent most of the day sipping water and eating saltine crackers and plain teddy grahams.

Now? My back and ribs ache, but other than that I’m okay. Alyssa, Ryan and I went out to Target to pick up some household stuff, and two gifts – one for Dan’s mother, and one for Ryan. Both were on sale, which was a plus. :)

Saturday… we were going to go to The Picture People and have a family portrait taken, but to be perfectly honest with you, I don’t feel like battling Christmas shopping traffic, mall crowds and toddlers who want to run around. And why put a $629 camera (plus $100+ lens, $60 memory card and $12 remote) to waste? We’re going to get dressed in our Christmas best and do our own damned portraits. It may take fifty or so tries, but we should get a decent one to use on Christmas cards. And if not, there’s always Photoshop to pick and choose the best expressions from the different photos and merge them onto one. ;)

  1. That’s exactly what my family does for portraits. Just put the timer and run to your spot and keep on smiling. It works like a charm and the best part is that you can see the results right away. :D

  2. That’s odd how you can just make the need to throw up wait… Eh. It seems something has been going around and knocking a lot of people on their asses, eeek. I’d do our own portraits too, especially with a camera that is that good. Why waste money on getting them “professionally” done?

  3. I hope you’re feeling much, much better!

And I do not blame you for not wanting to fight the Christmas crowd! Good luck with your family portraits!! I wish I had a nice enough camera to take a family photo.. =)

Ughh we had an appointment for Sydney to get pictures taken this morning and I passed. I was up all night just so miserable for reason that I’m not even sure of. It’s just the feeling of misery.

Odd how you can hold your up chuck! Good luck with that family portrait. I’m hoping your tree will be the back drop for one. Oh and I’d like to see that puffy little simon with a red bow on him.

  5. I agree. If you have a nice camera, do your own portraits. Sometimes they turn out better and don’t look so “fake”. If you know what I mean.
