Color me confused

This has been sitting in my MySpace mailbox for several days now, because quite frankly I’m not sure how to respond to it, or if I should even bother to.

Hi, how are you? I’m sure you don’t remember me, but I’m a blast from the past from Yahoo of old. Back when you were married and less than happy. It’s nice to see you’re in a happy marriage now. You still look great. Anyhow, I just wanted to say hi. Hope you had a great weekend.

The guy is right. I don’t remember him. In fact, I have NO CLUE who this person is. I don’t recall ever using Yahoo to chat (case in point: I have a registered Yahoo account, but I use it for email only; I haven’t used Yahoo Messenger in at least five years – and I have only been married for a little over three), and I don’t recall being married but “less than happy”. I don’t recognize this person’s name, his photos or anything about him. The profile seems legit – that is, it doesn’t seem like a spam one set up to hook people in.
Weird. Really weird.

I get those sort of messages all the time. I don’t even pay attention to them. They seem like a bunch of people who make up stories, and talk to themselves for pleasure. lol.

He’s probably a friend collector and is hoping that you’ll see it and say, “Um, I think I remember him…let me add him.” Then his friends list gets a boost and you go on forever trying to remember who he is.

Either that or he has you confused with someone else.

I havent had any of those crazy messages yet. I did have a few people from my highschool look me up… People who I wasn’t even friends with, and since they have kids now, and I have kids, I guess that automatically makes us friends.

  7. Crazy message… I would just ignore it? He may have you mixed up with somebody else??

Like seriously, delete it ignore. Always remember that myspace is full of creeps who HAVE NO LIFE. So, don’t give them time they don’t deserve.

Even if it doesn’t seem like spam now, it could end up being spam later in the form of comments/bulletins!

Maybe he is the one mistaking you for someone else. That happens once in a while on those networking sites. I am sometimes pretty sure I have found someone I know and then this person turns out to be someone completely else.

Sounds like spam to me. Things like this are worded to get your interest into it and then somehow get you into some advertiser’s site or something. I’ve gotten messages on MySpace like this saying there’s someone in my local area who’s been watching me and looking for a partner to start a business with. I was almost fooled by it at first, because it looks legitimate, but then decided not to do anything about it. Luckily I did, because not long after I got another one with the exact same message. Just another scam to try to get you to click on something or email someone.

  12. Dan – checking out my blog from work? Tsk, tsk. ;)

I get some people messaging me on Myspace all the time, saying something along the lines of how they know me and whatnot… The only problem is, I know all the people I know in particular age brackets and I know I don’t actually know them. Maybe the person has you confused with someone else, or maybe they’re just looking to pad their friends list. I’d just ignore it though.
