Is there relief in sight?

I feel like such a goddamn pussy. I don’t want to be so reliant on the painkillers to get through the day. I took Vicodin last night around 2am-ish, and then I didn’t take any today when I got up. I took some Tylenol instead, thinking it would be enough since it has been four days since my surgery.

Well, shortly after writing my last blog entry I was ready to cry from the pain. My teeth, my wisdom teeth sockets, my jaw, my face, my head… everything was throbbing to the beat of my heart rate and pulse. It was awful. So I took a Vicodin around 5:15pm, and as expected, was out like a light around 5:45pm and unable to rouse myself until about ten minutes ago. (Thank goodness Alyssa and Ryan napped really, really late today!)

When is this going to get better?! I only have two Vicodins left. Three if you count the one Dan has left from his wisdom tooth surgery, which is also 750mg, not the 500mg that I’ve been taking.

P.S. Leslie, thanks for the education on painkillers. Your comment made me laugh. :)

wow, poor you. When I had mine done I wasn’t in much pain afterwards. That day and the next day I was eating chips and everything else. I guess it’s different for people. Anyways, I hope you get some relief soon.

I wonder how long it’s supposed to keep hurting. My mom said 1-2 when I mentioned oral surgery to her. I just laughed my ass off and thought of you. I was thinking a good week, so maybe try taking 3 naproxen at one time. It’s an anti-inflammatory so it might help.

lmfao, thank you, thank you. I appreciate the link too!

You will be ok taking the Vicodin for a lil while. I would TRY not to take more than one a day, if you can stand it. Addiction potential is there but…highly, highly unlikely unless youre eating handfuls a day for weeks and weeks on end.

Oh yeah. The 500mg is just 5mg of Hydrocodone and 500 of Tylonal. The 750s, obv, are 7.5/750. So you could probably half that one.

Maybe you did too much too fast? When I had all four of mine out, they were all impacted and I also went under. I was on Percocet for it. The second day I wound up throwing up and severely irritating my incisions and I couldn’t take meds for 18 hours about. The pain was unimagineable and it actually took two days before my mouth felt better. I spent the entire first week lounging, keeping my head elevated and making sure I did not lay on either side of my face. I also didn’t do much activity because increased heart rate makes it throb. I remember a tip my oral surgeon gave me was take luke warm showers. The less steam there is, the less it’ll make your mouth throb. Try and keep your heart rate low and just take it easy. As dumb as it sounds, it helped me a lot when I had mine done (I had a bad procedure much like your’s). I think the majority of my pain was gone by the one week point and then it was just uncomfortable from the stitches. Once they fell out it was smooth sailing. If you ever need tips about what to do when the stitches start dangling, don’t be afraid to ask lol. I am a pro with them now. Hopefully you start feeling better soon <3

  7. Jenn, it’s OK to be reliant for a little while. It’s not lifelong, you just had oral SURGERY mmmk? Take them as you need them, maybe even call and get a refill from the dentist or something. It’s not like you’re doing it recreationally or anything, your recovery is just taking a bit of time.

when i had my teeth out (pretty much the same surgery as you i think) i spend almost a week just lying on the couch, full of painkillers and just sleeping. you just need to give your body time to heal.

sounds like dry socket to me. might want to revisit the dentist if it really is that bad.

I wish I could offer some form of comforting advise. Bit if it doesn’t get better, I would definitely reccommend seeing your dentist again.

hmmm… I got mine pulled on a Friday morning and I was back to work Monday morning. After the first two days, I only had to take a pain pill at night. Things were uncomfortable for awhile but nothing that required that much pain medication. I suppose everyone heals differently, but if you’re in that much pain maybe you should call up your dentist and see what’s up. Hope you feel better soon!! :)
