My mom has this issue of wanting to compete. When I bought a cell phone, she bought a cell phone. I got the Samsung, she got the Samsung. I talked about getting a Razr, she went out and bought one two days before I did and then claimed that I copied her. I bought a Dash, she decided she wanted one. I got the free HP laptop in February of 2006, no sooner called to tell her, and the next day she rushed out to get one. In May I started talking about wanting a DSLR. I mentioned wanting a Canon. She went out and bought a Nikon DSLR a few days later. Because I tried hers out and really enjoyed it, I bought the same. Not because she got the Nikon, but because I loved the experience I had with hers. Yet I’m somehow copying?
Now she wants a new kitchen faucet. Because she has to be better than me, I’m sure she’ll turn down my suggestion of checking out Delta faucets and will instead buy a Moen or some other brand, and then gloat about how it’s so much better than ours. Ugh. Let me tell you, this competition deal really gets old after a while!
