2007: a meme

1.What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Dan and I were evicted. We bought a house. I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed. Those are the only “major” things I can think of.

2.Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Pfft. Not a chance. I was off to a great start, but then everything went to shit when we had to deal with the stress of eviction and finding a new place to live. I never really did get back on track, “officially”. On the up side, I’m right where I was before, so at least I’m not any worse off!

3.Did anyone close to you give birth?
No. Good thing, too, as my uterus kicks into overdrive whenever I read birth stories and see pictures of pregnant women and newborns online. I think I’d have a stroke if I was around a pregnant woman!

4.Did anyone close to you die?
My husband’s grandmother died on February 23th, 2007.

5.What countries did you visit?
Pfft. I didn’t even leave the state this year! (Sad, but true!)

6.What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Happiness. This sounds so stupid, but right now? I am not happy. I never, ever thought of myself as a person to suffer from depression, but for the last few months I have really felt on the verge of it. I go around all happy-go-lucky and act like everything is just rainbows and unicorns, but really I don’t feel as happy as I look. Yet there’s no real reason to be unhappy… that grates. :(

7.What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
January 31st, 2007. Our lives were turned upside down when we received that eviction notice (and honestly, I think that is the answer to my problem mentioned in #6 – you think I’d be happy to be owning my own home, right? But I really miss our old place… Sigh. ).

8.What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Getting a very good grip on our finances, and dealing with things in our marriage much better than ever before.

9.What was your biggest failure?

I think my answer stands to be the same as it was last year: Pfft, like I’m going to air that publicly. :P

10.Did you suffer illness or injury?
Two broken toes, and a couple of rounds with a nasty stomach bug (March, May, twice in December).

11.What was the best thing you bought?
My Nikon D40x!

12.Whose behavior merited celebration?
Alyssa’s. She is really growing into a beautiful, happy, entertaining and enchanting little girl.

13.Whose behavior made you appalled and sad?
My twelve year old brother. He really needs to get his act together.

14.Where did most of your money go?
Bills!

15.What events did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving, Ryan’s first birthday, Alyssa’s third birthday and Christmas.

16.What song will always remind you of 2007?
Nelly Furtado’s “Say it Right”. I can’t tell you why, but I know that every time I hear that song I am instantly flooded with memories of 2007, particularly early 2007.

17.Compared to this time last year, are you:
i.happier or sadder? Sadder (see #6 – I’m not sure I know why!).
ii.thinner or fatter? About ten pounds lighter – I’m getting there!
iii.richer or poorer? Poorer, actually. We may make more, but we’re spending more. Mortgage, heating bill, house insurance, life insurance, 401k’s, savings, health insurance… oy!

18.What do you wish you’d done more of?
Same as last year: socializing.

19.What do you wish you’d done less of?
Stressing out.

20.How will you be spending Christmas?
Christmas has already been spent!

21.Who did you spend the most time on the phone with?
Again: my mom. I am lame.

22.Did you fall in love in 2006?
Last year’s answer works quite nicely: Yes… more in love with my husband, more in love with my daughter, and definitely in love with my son.

23. How many one-night stands?
None!

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Nip / Tuck. ♥

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
No.

26. What was the best book you read?
Too many to name just one.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery or rediscovery?
N/A.

28. What did you want and get?
A new home, a DSLR, answers to some prayers.

29. What did you want and not get?
To keep our old home, new nightstands for our bedroom, less stress!

30. What were your favorite films of this year?
To be honest, I didn’t see any movies in 2007 that made any real blip on the radar.

31.What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I did some work, and we went out grocery shopping. I also got awesome sex that night. :cutie: It was my 23rd birthday.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Again, last year’s answer fits this year’s question: A few people being honest about the things that bothered them. A few other people learning to shut their mouths about things that don’t concern them. And finally, a few family issues that still aren’t resolved, and cause continual frustration day after day after day. Also, being able to exact some revenge upon two individuals that my husband and I had to deal with last year; that is still in the works however, and when things do go through (perfectly legal and justified revenge, mind you), I’ll definitely blog about it and gloat. ;)

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Casual yet flattering, stylish yet comfortable. Something that is kid friendly, and is breastfeeding friendly.

34. What kept you sane?
Some of my online friends, and sleep! Oh, the wonders sleep can do..

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most/least?
None, though I do think the guys in Nip / Tuck are pretty hot. ;)

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably the war in Iraq… but isn’t that going to be a lot of people’s “pet” issue?

37. Whom did you miss?
My dad, Daniel’s grandmother, my best friend from high school.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Ranee! I “knew” her before, but we really got to know one another well in 2007. Also, Anna and Jason deserve honorable mentions. :)

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Learn to deal with things on the fly. Don’t stress and wallow in remorse and regret over what has already occurred, but instead, look to the future and what can be improved or resolved.

40. Do you have any lost feelings of others.
…what?

41.Quote a song that sums up your year:
I’m drawing a blank. I never was one to assign songs to life and its situations.

(I did this in 2006, too!)

2007 was a pretty good year for finding “decent” human beings on the net and forging friendships!

  3. ^Haahahaah

    EEEEeeeeee! I got a mention!

Cute meme. It’s great way to be able to look back and see your answers through the years.

Happy New Year, Jenn! May 2008 be all you hope for and MUCH more. :)
