Product review: Grey Poupon

I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’m getting into product reviews. While I’m normally not compensated for product reviews, I do get the opportunity to try out new products and services that I would otherwise have to pay for. It’s nice to get free stuff, but it’s also nice to give honest, unbiased feedback to the companies that make those products and offer those services.

The newest product I was sent to review is Kraft’s Grey Poupon. I had two varieties to try out — hearty spicy brown and harvest coarse ground. Both had very strong scents, and both immediately whet Dan’s appetite. He was in the mood for hot dogs and pretzels, and enjoys putting mustard on both, so we had our friend, J, stop at the store for hot dogs and pretzels on his way over here tonight.

Both Dan and J used both varieties of the Grey Poupon on their hot dogs (we haven’t yet had the pretzels, as we are quite full from dinner!).

Dan’s remarks:
The hearty spicy brown was a really good mustard. It’s not too much different from other brown mustards, but it had a nicer kick to it because of the onions. The whole mustard seeds in the harvest coarse ground gave it a big bite! Biting into the seeds was quite the experience. It was a very strong mustard, but it was delicious. Both mustards were very good.

J’s remarks:
I had the hearty spicy brown. It tasted a lot like the original Grey Poupon, though the onion gave it additional flavor. I liked it!

My remarks:
I admit, I’m not too much of a mustard person. But I did consent to giving both mustards a sniff test, and later, while cleaning up after dinner, a tiny bit of a taste test (read: a dab of the mustard on my finger). The harvest coarse ground was a little too strong for my liking, but almost had a better flavor than the hearty spicy brown.

So there you have it. A review of a popular condiment, with the input of three different people. :)

I always wanted to taste the Pou, seems like it would go good on a turkey sandwich!

The older I get, the more I prefer strongly flavored foods. Great review, and I do love the taste of these mustards!
