We grill in February

Tonight we had a very delicious dinner… but why waste words when I can let the pictures tell the story? (Bonus: click on the photo to head to the Flickr page and see the recipe!)

I feel chilled. :/ Dan and I stepped outside with Alyssa to check out the lunar eclipse, and right as I told him to go back and grab the house keys, knowing how Ryan likes to shut doors… Ryan runs over and shuts the door. It was locked, of course. So there we are, with Alyssa – me with a sweatjacket on, Dan in a t-shirt, and Alyssa in pajamas and no socks, thinking we were just going to be out for a minute or two. Well, after all was said and done we were outside for close to half an hour by the time my mom got here with the spare keys. We tried all the windows we could reach – securely locked, of course (good to know that an intruder would have an uphill battle getting in!). Dan tried breaking in one of the window panes on our back door, but double panes = no easy task to break. We both tried getting Ryan’s attention at the front and back door, and jiggled the doorknobs encouragingly, but of course he would do everything else at the door — dance around, knock on the door itself, etc. — but turn the knob. Sigh.
Luckily I had left my car unlocked, so Dan took Alyssa and huddled in the front seat with a blanket around the both of them while I kept an eye on Ryan through the front door’s window and kept him in eyesight with silly peek-a-boo games and noises.

I did take a few pictures of the lunar eclipse, but between not having a tripod and probably not having the right settings, they didn’t come out to good. Meh. At least we got to see it in person. I hope you did, too. :)

Quite a night to remember. lol. But, at least you’re all in back in, safe. Kids are clever these days, when they learn to close and lock / open the doors on their own.

That dinner looks delicious. We seem to grill 365 days a year.

I didn’t see the Eclipse. I guess I’ll just have to wait until 2010.

The only time I have ever been locked out of my apartment (was my first apartment) I just kicked the door really hard right at the knob and it popped open. Then again, the door itself sucked. I know all about being outside in a t-shirt (locked out) in the cold. I locked my keys in the trunk (the car keys) and had left the car locked when Jeremy and I were putting in bags we purchased. =( It was windy and cold. Needless to say we tried coat hangers to open the door, nothing. Someone took pity and called a friend they knew with a slim jim who took a half hour to pop a door open. Since then we have made copies of all our keys and have them hidden so we don’t have this problem again.

  3. I didn’t get to see it due to me being knocked out by the Tylenol 3, but I did see some pictures on the news and stuff. Looked so pretty. I’m so mad I missed it!

I totally missed the eclipse as I was taking a nap depressed. I can’t believe Ryan locked you all out! The little stinker ;).

    Yum, that food looks delicious!
Oh my gosh! That’s too funny about Ryan locking you out! Luckily your mother had a spare key, and good to know that if you couldn’t get in a window, or break through the door, nor could somebody undesirable!

  6. Oh jeez, what an interesting experience getting locked out lol. I saw the eclipse too, it was pretty.

  7. Ha ha, that is to funny. At least you did not have to wait to long, or phone a locksmith or something. Plus good to know that Ryan was safe during the whole odeal.

I once got locked out naked on our patio. Me and my boyfriend had gone out to have a late night smoke together (we were both very drunk) … let’s just say we only had a blanket and the sliding door locked behind us. Thankfully we managed to use a broom and gently lifted part of the glass door of the track to use the broom to hit the switch. Then the very next morning, we locked ourselfs out in the hallway. Locking the bottom lock by hand and leaving the keys on the counter.

I saw the lunar eclipse too. Pretty cool.

I’ve been notorious at locking myself out of places. I locked me and my roommate out of our apartment on move in day. Luckily the windows were really cheap and we crawled through. I locked my keys in my car at McDonald’s one day. And recently, I locked myself out of my house on my way to work. Now I have extra keys hidden in special places to avoid that situation.

Aww poor Ryan was having a great time at your expense! It’s a kid thing, they just have no clue the consequences behind locking doors. I learned to carry my keys with me all the time as this is one of my child’s favorite activities. She can’t stand for any door in the house to be open.
All the food looks good. I’m trying the steak first though! We do the potatoes but with garlic, butter, and olive oil. After seeing yours I’m going to try to put some zest in them next time.

It’s a good thing that one of yall had a cell phone handy to call your mom.

  11. Mi – actually, we didn’t! How’s that for stupid? I went to one of our nightowl neighbors and asked to use his phone. He was very nice about it, thank goodness.

Oh my! Well at least dinner was good. That last bit in your comment about forgetting a cell phone – it’s so funny because just about anybody has a story like that. Damned technology! :)

So how did you end up getting back in? I feel like you left us with a cliff hanger! :P

Ha! My friend slept over and we kept checking the moon every five minutes or so. We were too excited. But we looked through the Window since it was an Iceberg out.
