iPod abuse

Stupid me didn’t bother to get a case for my iPod until a year and a half after buying it. And so I am left with this:

I did some searching last night and found this review, written by a guy who had several banged up iPods and wanted to remove the scratches and marks on the fronts, backs and screens. He used a product called Brasso and another product called iKlear and set to work. It took some time and careful work with a polishing cloth, but judging by his after photos (yes, there are before photos as well), the Brasso and iKlear did a damn good job of restoring his iPods!

Guess what Jenn will be setting aside time to do this weekend. :)

P.S. I see Baldwin, I think movie actors. Apparently you can get Baldwin hardware as well. :P

Supposedly you can also removed some scratches with a banana. There’s a video floating around somewhere…

Yeah, I’ve seen other people with iPods as scratched as your one is/was, so I ended up buying as case the week after I bought mine.
That guy’s one was so dirty before he cleaned it, but it turned out amazingly well! Whoa! :O
Hope yours turns out well too!

WOW! His before and after photos are awesome. I don’t have an iPod, but I have an MP3 player and I’m now going to look for a case before it’s lovely beauty is scratched. I’d cry.

I’m so… Whats the word I’m looking for… I dont know. For me, as long as my ipod works and plays my music, I dont really care how many scratches it has.

I invested in a case a little too late as well, so let me know if that stuff is really worth the investment!

That sounds like an interesting product. Something I would have used if I hadn’t lost my ipod. =(

Wow, I didn’t think anyone’s iPod could be more scratched up than mine. I never use it anymore now that I’m living at school and can’t pirate music to put on it though :x I wonder if that stuff would work on my poor, poor camera though… Hm. I hope you’ll let us know how it worked for you.

That’s pretty impressive! I already use iKlear for cleaning my iPod, laptop, and iMac. But I think I’d still be too scared to use the brasso. Who knows if it would gradually degrade the plastic after one rubdown? That’s just how my mind works.

  12. YAY for creative zen micro. In great condition even without a case and being dropped. Creative > Apple. *runs off before I get beat for apple bashing*

Wow, that’s a lot of scratches! But it’s nice that there is a way to get rid of all the scratches. ^^

^ And Amanda, I use a Creative product that is also in great condition (but in a case, and has been dropped). Creative Zen Vision: M for me. I just get asked a lot if it’s an iPod…

Oh wow… your ipod is definitely in the worst condition I’ve ever seen one in… hopefully if you decide to try that fresh up products that it will work for you!

I thought you were going to post some before and afters of his.. lol. Yours definitely looks banged up – wow. I don’t use mine nearly as much!

That looks like one well used iPod! Wish I had one. Actually while I’m still at home I don’t really see much use for one. Unless of course I actually decided to leave my house and go for a walk or something. That’s pretty cool if you can actually get the scratches off. I’d love to see your ‘after’ photos.

I have an ipod classic and while the front remains pristine, the back is just as hideous (and I haven’t had it THAT long). A case would be nice! I’d love to see how you fixed your ipod’s scratches. Maybe I’ll try and fix mine as well.

  18. i would not have the patience to fix all the little scratches on an ipod! wow

Wow. I thought my iPod was the only one that ever looked that bad LOL! I have the same one and after it got so scratched up that I could barely see the screen I felt justified in buying an iPod Classic… I guess I should have just done a little research and then maybe I could have buffed them out instead of spending the money on a new one…
