Up to my eyeballs in grossness

Warning: thanks to my shitacular immune system and the highly contagious bug that one of us picked up, this post contains lots of material related to vomiting.

I couldn’t even start this post without having to first go change Ryan’s diaper. Sick poop. Ew. :(

So the fun started around 6pm on Tuesday evening. I woke up from a late nap not feeling right. By 8pm I was in the bathroom. I called Dan and begged him to come home from work as soon as he could, because I knew that I would be vomiting soon, and would be really unable to care for Alyssa and Ryan.

9pm. Dan is home, I’m in the bathroom worshipping the toilet. All of a sudden I hear Dan yelp for me. Ryan started to projectile vomit all over the kitchen. At one point I was vomiting, Ryan was in the bathtub and vomited again, and Dan was in the kitchen, retching while he cleaned up Ryan’s mess.

After Ryan was cleaned up in the tub Dan brought the playpen out into the living room, along with Ryan’s pillow, several blankets and a stuffed animal.

9pm – 2am. I sat with Ryan in the living room recliner and held him to me, stripped of everything but a diaper, covered with a blanket, with a cloth diaper under his chin to catch the mess whenever he threw up (by now it was just liquid). He laid on me listlessly, and cried so pitifully every time he got sick. It was awful. And he cried whenever I had to pass him off to Dan so I could go and get sick, which was at least two to three times per hour. The three of us (Alyssa was fine; Dan put her to bed by 12:30am, after finishing with cleaning the kitchen, emptying the trash and washing out a small bathroom trashcan whose liner had a leak in it… ) sat in the living room, and watched Knocked Up.

2am. Went to bed. Ryan had fallen asleep in my arms, after laying there limply for the last five hours. We put him in the playpen in the living room, and crept off to bed.

2:30am. Dashed out of bed to go and get sick.

3:30am. Woke up to hear Ryan throwing up, so I went in and held him, comforted him, cleaned him up, gave him a fresh blanket, and laid him back down in the playpen.

4:30am. See 3:30am.

5:30am. See 3:30am. Dan woke up this time, and ran into the bathroom just in time to start getting sick.

6:15am. See 3:30am.

7:20am. See 3:30am. Dan finally fell back to sleep, flushed, feverish and shaky, just as I felt.

8:15am. Killer hunger pains that made me feel sick woke me up out of a sound sleep. I nibbled on part of a rice cake, took a few sips of water (the first I had since 6pm the night before) and went back to sleep.

10:45am. Dan woke up, ran into the bathroom. I got up, felt sickeningly hungry once again, so I had some more of a rice cake. Ryan was up, but hadn’t thrown up. I gave him about an ounce of plain, unsweetened apple juice to drink.

Rushed around to gather up all of the laundry (regular laundry, plus all of the soiled blankets, cloth diapers and our own bed sheets too), including pillows, and organized loads in front of the washer and dryer. Cleaned the bathroom (again). Sanitized the hell out of the bathroom, and the kitchen.

Took a much needed shower while Dan was throwing up. At this point I had witnessed so much vomiting that it didn’t really bother me.

11:45am. Ryan kept down the juice, so I gave him a quarter of a rice cake to eat.

I’m sitting here with a headache and a growling stomach, and I feel like I have been dragged through a knothole. Ryan alternates between sitting in Alyssa’s room, sitting in my lap and sitting on the couch, looking pretty crappy and very, very pale. Alyssa is throwing crying fit after crying fit because she isn’t the center of attention, and I’m feeling so worn out that I just want to lock her in her room. Ugh. Not that I would… but the thought is there!

Dan just walked in the door. He’s a stickler for going to work, so he decided to suck it up and go at 11am this morning. He got there and puked himself silly, so now he’s back home. He’s in the bathroom right now, but I’m sure he’ll be going to sleep as soon as he can. He must be exhausted. I know I am.

Anyway, I have a shit ton of work to do. I had a lot to do that I planned on tackling last night, but that obviously never happened!

  1. Ugh. That sucks. I hope everyone feels better soon.

I’m horrible about being sick because I cannot stand to throw up. So I just end up feeling like crap longer because I refuse to vomit and get it over with so I can feel better. :sweatdro:

Oh no that’s terrible! Was there something that made you all sick (e.g. a food?) or was is it just a bug? I hope you all feel better soon and that Alyssa doesn’t get what you all have as well. Maybe she could help look after everyone (getting Ryan a new blanket etc) so it keeps her mind off not being centre of attention??

I hope you all get better soon.

I hope that doesn’t happen to me when I have kids… if I have kids. I can go years without getting sick. I got sick once last year for the first time in forever, and this year, 0 times.

I’m glad that it stopped, ugh. That many trips to vomit would probably send me straight to the hospital. You poor guys… Bowling, I’m telling ya. It was the bowling. :dead: Fluids! Take care! *hugs*

Joe and I had a form of this a few weeks ago. The fun part with ours was that it was coming from both ends…yay!

I wound up in the hospital because I got so dehydrated (I couldn’t even keep down water) that I could barely stand up and I was worried about the baby. Luckily for me the vomiting only lasted for about 12 hours. The other end took a few days to clear up. Joe got it 2 days after mine cleared up and the fun continued.

Here’s hoping that your bout with it is as short as ours was!
