Because I was so busy last week I didn’t get to baking cookies for Anna, Dez and Shannon until Thursday night. The first batch — whipped shortbread cookies — came out perfect, and as soon as they cooled I vacuum packed them. The second batch, chocolate chip, were “flat as fritters”, as my grandmother would say. Seriously, the chocolate chips IN the cookies stood taller than the cookies themselves. I’m thinking I made the butter too soft (bordering on melted, eep). So that batch hit the trash.
Friday night, I made peanut butter fudge. It’s delicious and pretty and perfect, and has also been vacuum packed.
This evening, I did the chocolate chip cookies. Only they got a little too done. It was as I was pulling the trays out of the oven that I realized that whoever had used the oven last (Dan, I think) had moved the top shelf down a notch. Grrr. So that batch hit the trash.
This batch is coming out perfectly. So far. *knocks on wood*
Ryan and I are watching Finding Nemo. He’s giggling at the fish, and I’m multi-tasking here with blogging, email checking, Ryan cuddling, cookie checking and TV watching. Alyssa? She’s asleep. She didn’t sleep well last night, and hasn’t yet gotten up from her nap late this afternoon!

It’s okay Jenn
I’m sure they’ll turn out fine. I’m all excited for the shortbread ones!
That was NOT me. Blame your mom
On the contrary, I think it WAS you. Weren’t you the one that heated up potatoes in the oven the other night?
Yeah, but I’m not one to wantonly change the racks around.
Remember: I R Lazy
BTW, isn’t the name of that movie ‘FINDING Nemo’?
Wantonly? That’s a new one from you. ;) And yes, it is Finding! Whoops! I don’t know why I wrote Hello!
Because you’re a M-O-R-O-N
:D
Pfft. More like I was B-U-S-Y. Toddlers keep me that way a lot of the time! *mwah*
I can’t believe you threw away cookies!!!
Even cookies that are flat are still cookies haha
I would of given up after the first batch.
But hopefully this last one turns out
I wonder if it’s really the butter being too soft?
Once I melted it to.. completely liquid and it was so hot it melted all my sugar but my god! the cookies were the BEST i ever made. lol
My mom taught me that if you melt the butter (depending on the type of cookie) your cookies will be flat. I never melted the butter again when I made cookies. But I always kept the cookies. Just because they’re flat doesn’t mean they won’t taste good. LOL
The only cookies I’ve baked are snickerdoodles, but I have yet to perfect them!
Sounds like you made some delicious cookies, though, despite a couple of messed up batches!
You’ve got me wanting cookies now
Remember: I R Lazy
I was just feeling that same statement when I read DOMESTIC FAILURE. The only time I do half of what Jenn does is around the holidays, or when I won’t break a sweat, because I R lazy.
I think the butter not being the right temp can have to do with it. Deviating sugar types, especially brown sugar, can make all the difference. For some reason my cousin swears if she buys name brand brown sugar it kills everything she makes, or powdered. It could have everything to do with it being HUMID out. My mom tried to make PB Fudge and she said it failed miserably because it was humid.
In other words it’s just a crap shoot most of the time isn’t it?
Those cookies sound yummy, damn diet – I want cookies!!! :bummed: lol. Hope your friends enjoy them though!
Hehe, I liked the conversation between you and Dan in the comments
hehe, i also can’t believe you threw the not-so-good batches away! i would have eaten them anyway :p
(in the voice of cookie monster)OOOOOOooooooo me want cookies! (you can tell Sesame Street is played way too much in this household)
