So I have two unique problems when clothes shopping. First is the girls — even for being plus sized, they’re big. They were manageable until I got pregnant with Alyssa. Eighteen months of pregnancy and two years of breastfeeding did not do my breasts any favors. So I shop for bras at Fashion Bug, Lane Bryant, and online, and any other place that carries decent, supportive and attractive bras in DDD.

The second issue:

Now, I am not short. I’m not tall, but average, or maybe a bit above, at 5’6”. Yet my inseam is very, very short. Average seems to be 31″ – 32″, and mine barely measures in at 27″. Even my mom noticed: she’s an inch taller than me, yet she has problems with pants being too short on her (we joke about most of her jeans being high waters), and when we sit I sit up taller than her. Me, on the other hand… the pants drag. It sucks when it’s raining, or has recently rained, because my jeans wind up wicking up puddles of water nearly to my knees.

Ever try finding petite plus sizes? It sounds like an oxymoron, doesn’t it? ;) Apparently Lane Bryant carries some of their plain styled boot cut and flare jeans in petite, average and tall, but all of the other short legged fat chicks like myself cleared out the petites in my size, so I’m SOL. Oh well. I’m used to the bagginess at this point, even if it is irksome!

Good news on my mom’s minivan: after getting another extender (whatever that is), Dan was able to replace the last two spark plugs. I was so nervous with him under the minivan, which was held up with two jacks. I had fears of a horror movie coming to life and the van being knocked off its jacks, and him being crushed beneath it. :( But he made it out unscathed, besides a few scratches and scrapes on his arms and knuckles.

So, the new spark plugs are in and they work. But of course nothing can ever go smoothly for us. The minivan still wouldn’t start. But we’re 99.9999999999% certain it’s the battery, which is almost four years old, and of course hasn’t been used in almost eight weeks, and used recently only to try and start the minivan. We hooked up my car’s battery to the minivan’s to try and jump it. The minivan did a bit more in terms of trying to start, but it couldn’t completely turn over. Dan and his brother think it’s because my car is a small little 4 cylinder, and its battery isn’t powerful enough to give the minivan’s battery the juice it needs.
Tomorrow we’re going to hook up the Hyundai’s battery (the Hyundai is a V6, like the minivan) to the minivan’s battery and see what we can do. And if that doesn’t work, we’ll replace the battery. Cross your fingers that this battery issue is the only thing between my mom’s minivan being in OUR driveway and not in HERS!

Oh, and I did get my car back, yesterday evening. :)

Awesome for getting the car fixed. I’ll bring over my supercharger car and help ya jumpstart ;). As for the jeans, I love the design on yours!

  2. What about getting them hemmed? It’s $7 a pair at the tailor I use. My pants last some much longer without the hem getting all frayed from being walked on.

My problem is that at 5’9 1/2″ My pants are too darned short usually! I always get them long from Lane Bryant (when I can afford to order) just so they’ll be long enough!

Hope your mom’s minivan starts after being either jumped with the Hyundai battery or a new battery!

You know what I always wondered? Why it is that if I’m thick around my waistline I had to be the same size all the way down? I always had the problem of the jeans fitting way too huge in the legs. Now that’s fashionable, but it used to look stupid. That’s one of the drawbacks of being a PCOS’er you have that middle area that needs a bigger size and the rest of you is normal.

I hope the minivan situation gets fixed. Dan is really nice to be doing all this work, in his limited free time.

I still own a pair of jeans from High School. While they still fit, and I love the style, the seams on the bottom are all ripped and torn due to all the wear, and walking on the bottoms – being too long. I feel the pain girl. And, I’m only 5’1. I was recently shopping for jeans, found them in short, but they didn’t have my size.

I understand completely what you’re saying about having trouble finding clothes, especially bras and jeans that fit. I have the same problem…I’m about 5’5/5’6″ and people are SURPRISED when I tell them I have to wear short or petite length/size pants and jeans, and even then they drag a bit on the floor. I can’t stand to buy jeans most of the time because I can never find any good ones that fit without the crotch being so low and length being too long.

I don’t know what size you wear, but maybe check oldnavy.com as they sell Plus sizes online in the short length and they just started carrying petite sizes in regular womans which goes up to size 20. I have some old Lane Bryant jeans (the Fit Right) that I don’t wear often that I like, so I’m glad there is a store like that out there for those of us that are vertically challenged :)

I know what you mean about the inseam! I’m 5’6” as well, and my pants always drag on me. I always have to either hem my pants or fold them. We’re not short, we’re taller than most girls and shorter than most boys (as I like to say it!), but when it comes to pants, I guess we’re “short” :/

Ugh. They just need to start making more clothing options. -.- My cup size is an F. It’s friggen impossible to find nice bra’s, AND shirts. I can’t wear anything that doesn’t stretch, because 10 times out of 10, it doesn’t fit. I am 5’6″, but I have long legs, and my waist for some god forsaken reason is much tinier in comparison to my hips, even as fat as I am. So everything rests on my hips, which is okay for the length problem, but it makes wearing pants nearly impossible unless I want to look like my crotch is at my knees. I hate buying clothes. lol So I wear tank tops/tshirts/skirts 99% of the time. :)

I’m 5’7″ and I used to wear average… but now when I shop at Wal-mart, I don’t know what they did to their pants, but I have to get petite and they’re STILL a bit too long.

Uggh, I have the exact same problem. I’m not plus size, but petite pants are too short and regulars are too long. My mom’s friend who’s a tailor has hemmed a few pairs of my jeans. I think I paid $15 for three pairs to be done. It was completely worth it.

I’d recommend taking your jeans to be altered. If you can get them on sale, you’ll most likely still be paying less for them after the alterations AND they’ll fit how you like them to. Glad you got the car back, too!

I’m short, and I used to weigh 375 pounds. Now, I’m still short, weighing in at 150 pounds. Regardless of the weight, when I was heavy (and even now), I’ve found many pairs of cute jeans for plus size petite (just petite now) at places like Walmart, Fashion Bug, and Dots. I don’t know if you have any of those around you (I live close to Pittsburgh), but it’s worth a try. I found many, many things, and right now, there’s a HUGE sell at DOTS!

    Good luck. Hope this helped!

Hahaha, it looks like everyone has the same problem! You’d think they would make a better range consideration there are so many people experiencing the same issue.
Bra’s and jeans are extremely frustrating for me to shop for. Especially bra’s. Though I am the complete opposite to you :bummed: I’m so flat that I can barely fit into anything. I ALWAYS have the problem of there being a gap between my chest and the bra when I lean over, which is obviously the most inopportune time and shows everything.
Arggh. As for jeans, I swear some shops have the most ridiculous sizes! Theres two popular shops in my area with really nice looking pants, but I don’t know who in the world can wear them. I’m 5’3 and pretty slim (typical small Asian figure), and the pants that fit my waist are tooo long, by up to 8 or so inches! The pants that are a decent length, are absolutely too small for my hips, they look like they should be for a 6 year old. I don’t know who the heck they are trying to target with these measurements of clothes lol.
