I’m not as think as you drunk I am

So this is what last night looked like for me:

Strip poker. After we played Blackjack, Bullshit and War.

Dan indulging liberally on alcohol. This particular photo was immediately after a shot of Bacardi 151.

I took nice girly shots consisting of half of a shot of Malibu pineapple rum.

And now, my confession: I am 24 years old and I have never been drunk. I have never “progressed” beyond being slightly tipsy. Tipsy for me being warm, flushed, giggly and a bit hyper and silly.

I had my first real taste of alcohol when I was 19, at Dan’s 21st birthday party. While Dan got totally smashed (to the point that he pissed himself, broke a toilet, threw up everywhere and passed out), I had several strawberry daiquiris and one or two woo woos. I stopped at that point, and spent the rest of the party laughing at Dan, taking pictures and helping to clean up the various alcohol-induced messes he created.

Between then and December 2003 (one month before I got pregnant with Alyssa), I can count the number of drinks I had on one hand. And they were all strawberry daiquiris and woo woos.

Dan wanted to get me drunk on my 21st birthday, but I was breastfeeding Alyssa.
He wanted to get me drunk on my 22nd birthday, but I was pregnant with Ryan.
He hoped for getting me drunk on my 23rd birthday, but I was breastfeeding Ryan.
The period between the end of breastfeeding Alyssa and getting pregnant with Ryan was about three months, and I think I had one or two drinks during that time.
I had exactly two drinks on my 24th birthday, and that was it. :P

I just don’t see the appeal of drinking so much alcohol that you lose your inhibitions, make choices you definitely wouldn’t make when sober, and get sick and pass out. *shrug* But hey, to each their own. So long as you’re not hitting the road while under the influence and putting the lives of others at risk, do what you want!

    Kudos to the title.

As long as you drink responsibly, have a good time. I’m absolutely against drunk driving. If I go out, and know I’m going to have a few drinks, I find a ride.

Not much on beer, but I love cocktails. My favorite would have to be Strawberry Margaritas. I also love Malibu + Cranberry Juice, Jim Beam + Coke, Cherry Rum + Coke (tastes just like cherry coke), and other mixxed beverages. If you need a buzz, and an energy boost, I have shots of Red Bull and Vodka.

The only (and last time) that I remember getting completely slammed was the last night in Australia. I’ve had a few buzzed experiences since, but nothing compared to that. According to Daniel, I was just really giggly, and wobbly. lol. I become very spontaneous when I drink, laugh a lot, and speak drunk gibberish (or talking a lot, though you can’t really understand what I’m saying).

  2. You know, I used to be quite the drinker before I had my son. Now I very rarely drink, and when I do I’ll have 4 beers at the most, which doesn’t even give me a slight buzz. And I NEVER drink in front of my son….
I think it’s because I feel that if an emergency were to happen, I’d want to be totally and completely sober. That or I just feel guilty, like I’m doing something wrong….
Honestly, now that my heavy drinking days are behind me, I also don’t see the point in getting sloppy drunk. In fact, being around a drunk makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable. I think that has more to do with growing up in an alcoholic family (dad’s side). Even back when I did drink, being around a drunk while I was sober was aggravating….

  3. And I NEVER drink in front of my son….

I definitely see where you’re coming from, and I agree. I never drink in front of Alyssa or Ryan, and Dan and I always save our indulgence with alcohol for long after both kids are in bed. I strongly feel that some things should remain adults-only, to the point of not even allowing the kids to SEE what is going on, because they don’t need to.

  4. I used to drink for the intention of getting very drunk. Now I rarely drink at all. I have some drinks once and a while, but more along the lines of what you have. I don’t take shots anymore (ew), and I very rarely get drunk. Puking and feeling like crap the next day is not fun.

drinking makes no sense to me at all really.. i’m 26 and the only alcohol i’ve ever ingested was nyquil and even taking that makes me pass out for about 4 hours. i’ve never really understood the need to get drunk.. it seems very scary to me.

  6. Ugh. I’m like you. I’ve never been drunk either, and I’m 21 in just over a month. I just don’t see the point of it. It doesn’t sound fun…or healthy.
LOL at the photos of Dan’s 21. Poor broken toilet and towel rod! :O

My alcohol tolerance is really high so, when I drink, I have to drink quite a lot in order to feel the effects. I’ve never seen the point in drinking without the ultimate goal of getting drunk (except for red wine, which has health benefits apparently), so I don’t do it often. It’s a waste of time and money for me.

I have only been drunk once and that was by the hand of a mix of tequila and absinthe, which I started drinking on an empty stomach. Never again!

Apparently, I’m a lush lol. My friends and I regularly have drinking parties centered around drinking games at my place….however, none of us have kids, and I know if I ever do have a kid, my drinking would be a lot less often.

Ha ha, I’ve been drunk way to much in my life, personally think that is because we can drink from the age of 18 in the Uk, so it was so much fun, I don’t do it as much these days as I don’t have the cash

  10. I like to drink to feel tipsy but occasionally I do like the drunk feeling, like this weekend. I cannot WAIT. I like the feeling of not caring for a little while like an escape but always around people I trust AND of course no drinking and driving.

I have the same reasoning with pot. No driving, only with people I know/trust.

I have a drink or two once a month, sometimes twice, sometimes never, just to relax – usually when I’m ovulating or over stressed or when people drag me to the bar with them. I don’t drink to get drunk though. I did plenty of that long ago when I thought Goldschlager, Rumplemintze, Black Haus and any other liquor I could get my hands on or concoction I could think up, was the best thing evar and a vital nightly occurrence.

Experiences, growing up, and having kids change you – for the better.

I’m surprised you mentioned Woo Woos though! Everywhere I go – when I play the sober driver and have my alloted 1 -2 drinks during the 5 hours we are at the bar – I always order a WooWoo, and it never fails that the bartender will look at me and ask for directions on how to make it. I’ve been drinking those since I was 16!

I’ve been drunk too many times to count. College will do that to you, I guess. Or being friends with people who party all the time. But you grow out of it. Once my boyfriend and I moved in together and got real jobs and real responsibilities, we curtailed that. We’re just old – don’t feel like hitting the bars every weekend, would rather spend our money on other things.

However, there’s something to be said for having your own place and being able to drink there. We throw parties occasionally and those who want to drink can, those who don’t won’t. If you start breaking shit in my house, you’re being driven home. If you start puking, I’m putting you outside until you can hold your own. If you’re obnoxious, I’m sending you home. It’s all a matter of striking that balance between having a good time and being a complete asshole.

Sometimes it’s a nice feeling. And it’s even nicer knowing you’re doing it in the safety of your own home while the kids are asleep and oblivious to it all and overall everyone is having a good time. (Especially red wine – mmmm, I LOVE my red wine!)

  13. Ranee wrote on #

Agreed with Kristy. As a matter of fact my original intent was to just bold this

to the point that he pissed himself, broke a toilet, threw up everywhere and passed out

and say ahh, the good old days.

I did the typically girly drinking in college, but was always the first one drunk and the first one puking. It always ended up with my clothing missing and random “almost” hook ups with college guys. Thank god I sober quickly. Like she said, college does that to you.

I stopped drinking anything in 2001 when I started to try and get pregnant. I’ve probably had 5 drinks since then, maybe a few more I’m forgetting. I’d never drink in front of my child although I don’t mind people having a beer or a glass of wine at dinner or something of that nature around their children. As long as you aren’t pounding them and getting drunk.

I hate seeing a kid who is with drunk parents, it breaks my heart.

I’ve never been drunk either and I’m 27.

I love Tequila Sunrises. Yum! Unfortunately, I’m on a rather complex treatment programme for an illness so I’m not drinking at the moment. :(

151…wow that shit will mess you up! It burns like a mo-fo too, which clearly explains his painful expression ha ha. I’ve only gotten drunk to the point of throwing up once and it was totally not worth it…the hangover definitely isn’t worth it either.

Tipsy is good fun, but fall on your face drunk is just…uhg. I tend to take a ton of shots right off and feel fine for a bit and then I get totally smashed and that is the end of my night! So, yea tipsy=good plan. I agree with the driving thing too, wow I don’t care how drunk I have been, I have never thought I was okay to drive ever, I don’t think your judgment can become that distorted, people just use it as an excuse so they don’t have to take responsiblilty for their actions.

Oh My God! I love this post Jenn, you made me laugh so hard at the bit where Dan broke the Toilet lmfao!

Oh poor guy, that must of been HILARIOUS! Wish I were there lmao!

This is the main reason why I own the domain of Trashed haha. I love it. But I don’t get trashed all the time just on special occasions etc.

Do ya think he’s learned his lesson now from it? and drink more responsible? God I would of been on the floor seeing a broken toilet (sorry this just gets me in stitches)

thanks for the laugh Jenn. xx

OMFG. I love Bullshit. We used to play it during lunch in middle school, and every time a teacher aide would come around our table, we’d start yelling “brown sugar” instead of “bull shit.” Good times, good times.

And to that, I 100% agree with you. I don’t see what the glamour is in getting drunk. Occasionally, I will have a glass of wine or a margarita, but it’s because I enjoy the taste, and not so I can have a hangover the next day!

BTW, I love the squinty picture of Dan, it is priceless

    Lol nice title.
I agree with you completely about drinking. Well, I know that I’m still pretty young and will have more chances to drink later on, but not in the way my friends like to drink. I think drinking should only be enough to enhance the mood, but still mostly be in control. Whereas my friends love to drink for the intention of getting drunk. Personally I don’t understand why they would want to, when they know what it’s going to feel like the next morning. :blank:
I love Dan’s expression, it’s such a major xD face lol

Sounds like you had a fun night. :D

Maybe it’s because I’m a recent college grad, but I still enjoy a good get drunk/act stupid/feel horrible the next day. I’ve never got the kind of people who can do that EVERY weekend, but after a rough week I think it’s fun to let lose and act like a moron. Then again I’m lucky enough to be one of those people who doesn’t completely lose track of myself, even when I’m nearly pass out drunk. I STILL refuse to sing karaoke even at that point, which is a good sign for me. :)

The last time I’ve been DRUNK I was 16 and blanked out 3 hours before they said I went to sleep. So there are 3 hours in my life that are unaccounted for and I am so lucky that i was with my cousins when that happened. Otherwise I would have woke up with 3 babies in my lap. :hmm:

I have noticed that some people grow out of the “drink until your stupid” phase earlier than others. I went though it when I was a teenager, and I hardly drink at all now. I’m a social drinker who does not need large quantities of alcohol to have a good time. My brother who his 30 still has not grown out of his party and drinking phase… to each their own. As long as you are responsible and get home safely the next day that is all that matters.

  23. Anna wrote on #

I have a drink a few times a week. A. DRINK. Like a glass of wine with dinner or when I sit down to unwind for the night. Last night I had a strawberry margarita at dinner.

I haven’t been DRUNK in months. I don’t mind a good night out with the girls or having a party at our house where copious amounts of alcohol are consumed. I’ve never been do drunk that I’ve lost tine or done something I regretted later.

    PS – I just installed CommentedOn! ;)

  24. I got really super drunk a week ago. -chuckles- But, aside from that, I rarely drink. That was totally my first time and it’s something everyone has to do once, right?
