Leah isn’t taking to her crate tonight like she did last night, and even for most of today. I’m 99.9999999% certain that is because she wants to be out here in the living room with us. This has been going on now for ten minutes. She is only now settling down a tiny bit, and that’s only because we turned off the lamps in the living room, and are whispering back and forth.
Mistake numero uno on my part. I should have crated her for the night right as we were going to bed, and not beforehand. Yeah, I could take her out to shut her up, but then that’s giving in and rewarding bad behavior, and I definitely don’t want to go down that road!
Thank you guys for all of the comments about her.
She’s fitting in quite well. (YAY, as I type this, I hear nothing but the sounds of my keyboard!)

aaaww. leah is such a cute name =)

Her messing on the carpet shouldn’t be an issue if you keep a close eye on her in whatever room that you are in. She’s whining because she wants interaction with her new loved ones. Dogs are very needy animals and require lots of attention versus a typical cat who usually wants to be left alone to their own vices.

You’re learning how to train a puppy just like she’s learning what she needs to do. I’m sure you’ll both work it out in time.
