Hi… me again.
I’m not exactly in a blogging rut, but I’ve been busy with a lot of stuff (work, visiting my brothers, daily stuff), and I can’t think of anything exciting to blog about. I’m still trying to perfect the art of blogging about mundane things in an interesting manner… how am I doing so far (in general, not just this particular blog entry)?
Tonight I had Leah outside for her last outing for the night, and I was looking up at the moon and realized it looked just like it did when I first got her. October 15th (today, heh) marks exactly one month of having her.
She’s doing great. The one big issue is how she goes crazy barking and carrying on whenever I leave the room and go out of her sight. I know that the best solution to this kind of behavior is to ignore it, as any kind of reaction, even if it is to scold, is still a reaction and attention, which is what the dog wants. But when it’s going on for weeks and during times when Dan and/or the kids are asleep, then more needs to be done. So we’ve stepped things up a notch, and she now gets a shot of cold water to the face and a very firm “Leah, NO”, whenever she does it. Come to think of it, Dan only had to do it to her twice on Tuesday afternoon… I have to say, she’s a quick learner. ;)
I’d say the highlight of my week so far was Sunday night. After driving 50 miles one way to visit with my brother, then hopping on the turnpike and driving 70 miles the other way to see my other brother, and then driving another 40 some miles to get home, Dan and I met his brother and Jason at the bar. I think the following tweet made that night really says a lot about how the night went:
I have never felt like thid before. Holy shut.
I had exactly one gummi bear, sang Katy Perry’s “I Kissed a Girl”, about 1/4 of another gummi bear, and a shot of… I don’t know what. I was feeling pretty warm and slightly fuzzy from the first gummi bear, but once that second shot hit… WHOA. The room was spinning, I felt sleepy and fuzzy and lightheaded and just really out of it and sluggish. Not sick, thankfully. But definitely not sober. I’m pretty sure I have the alcohol tolerance of a five year old. And looking back on it, being on the first day of my period (read: amazing I can lose that much blood and still be conscious) and being anemic on top of it probably made my reaction to the alcohol that much worse.
But I was okay. Dan drove us over to his brother’s apartment, where he proceeded to get completely drunk and sick (first time since his 21st birthday, lol). He chugged one or two mudslides (something you’re not supposed to do, apparently) and had two beers. Me? One tiny sip of the beer just to proclaim its nastiness, and a shot of some of the stuff that goes into the making of a mudslide. So by morning, which was when we left, I was okay to drive, and I dragged Dan’s sorry ass home, gave him Advil, put him to bed, and let him sleep until 3pm Monday afternoon.
Dan and I are going to the Renaissance Faire this Sunday. He got his schedule arranged (thanks Jason!), I got babysitting arranged (thanks Mom!), so we’re good to go. :D Alyssa’s birthday party invites have been sent out (Danielle, are you and Matt coming?), and we have schedules and babysitting for Ryan arranged for the 25th, which is when we’re going to a family Halloween party/bonfire.
Speaking of Ryan, we have a few more words: go (said when shoving cats off the couch), ball and shoe. “Shoe” came out of nowhere today, and it was really funny because I’m so used to listening to Alyssa babble a mile a minute at me that I didn’t think anything of Ryan saying “shoe” and handing it to me, until 1.5 seconds later and I’m like, “WHAT?” But he said it again with the other shoe, and when I held both shoes up and prompted him.
So we’ve got go, ball, shoe, joo (milk/juice/water), no (said to almost any question, heh), and Mamamamamamama (which hasn’t been said for several weeks).
I picked up a new phone tonight, the Panasonic KX-TG9341T. Besides the base having its own keypad and speaker phone features, the phone system itself allows you to block calls from unwanted numbers DIRECTLY from the phones themselves. I can’t wait until the first telemarketer call comes in the morning, say hello to BLOCK (any future calls from them will throw up a busy signal and disconnect them) motherfuckers!
Well, I better get off of here and get back to work if I want any extra spending money for the Ren Faire this weekend! How is everyone’s week going so far?

I will let you know if Matthew and I will be going. I have to see if Matthew can get off work.

That phone is pretty awesome, you’ll have to let me know how it works out for you. I’m thinking about getting a different one for our house. That call block from the phone itself sounds like it will be REALLY useful.

Haha, your alcohol tolerance amuses me ever so slightly. Saturday I had a shot, a jaeger bomb, 5 sex on the beach, and a strawberry vodka/sprite and I was still coherent and walking. I hope Leah learns to stop barking that much. It can be quite annoying to deal with, I’ve been through training two dogs so I’m aware. Ryan’s progress has sounded like it’s been great so far. I hope it continues in that direction.

Another great thing with the barking: use the spray bottle but don’t say “LEAH, NO” instead just say “BOTTLE” before spraying her so she associates it with the spraybottle and not you. We learned that from one of the trainers at Petsmart (SO WORTH IT if you can afford it or have the time. it does wonders for puppy socialization too!) with our puppy Jack and it works well.

Haha you’re just like me. I sniff alcohol and fall over drunk.
That phone is awesome! Let us know how you like it!!
I’m glad Ryan has made some progress. I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed that his development is nothing to worry too much about.

Wow my tolerance isnt even that bad! ;) Jk At least you had some fun.
Love the phone!
You spray her in the face with water? Awe.
Hes like my baby…I wouldnt spray my baby in the face. Boston’s (what Charlie is) RARELY, RARELY, RARELY bark. Ive heard him bark…less than 20 times since ive had him (since August 9th). And, he learned “NO!” within 2 weeks….hes a very good little puppie…
Id never spray my Charlie in the face
Positive reinforcement works so much better than negative.
