I really hate unwanted phone calls. I get at least one or two every day. There are several things you can do to combat the issue of unwanted phone calls from telemarketers and the like, including:
- speak to the person that is on the line and request that your phone number be removed from their calling list
- register your phone number with the Do Not Call Registry (donotcall.gov)
AND - keep track of unsolicited calls and report them
- change phone numbers annually (sadly enough, we used to do this)
- invest in a telephone system like the Panasonic KX TG9341T that allows you to block phone numbers from the phone itself
In addition, you can also check out sites like reportphonenumbers.com and file a Harassing Caller Report. Filing a report may not necessarily stop the calls, but you can inform others about the calls you’re getting, and possibly learn more about the company that is trying to get in touch with you. I frequently use sites like these to look up information on who is calling me before taking action.

I just ignore them!
My boyfriend and I play a little game called “Who can get the telemarketer to hang up first.” Asking them what they’re wearing usually works.
In all seriousness though, we also have an unlisted number, so it doesn’t appear in telephone directories and the like….
