Goodbye Spam Karma 2

8 comments - Leave a comment

For the last few weeks Spam Karma 2 has been catching and eating a lot of legitimate comments. I didn’t catch on until about a week ago, when several people emailed and twittered to let me know. When I went into SK2′s settings to recover the comments, they wound up being deleted altogether. I’d say at least thirty comments in all were caught and subsequently lost… just in the last week. I’m sorry guys. :(
Anyway, I removed Spam Karma 2, and installed Akismet (thanks for the suggestion Anna) instead. Now it’s like starting all over again in terms of “training” the plugin to know what comments can be approved. As some of you have surely noticed, your comments are being held for moderation. This should only happen the first time you comment after I set up Akismet. I’m approving comments as quickly as I get them. :)

Today is quite dreary. With the exception of Sunday afternoon, it has been drizzling non-stop since sometime Friday night. Rainy days are nice, except we’re all stuck in the house, and the lack of sunshine and constant pattering of rain on the windows and roof make for great sleeping weather. That can be a good thing… except when you’ve got toddlers to get up with. ;)

Dan left for his conference this morning. He woke me up around 10:30 to ask where my PayPal debit card was, because he needed to get some cash and pick up a dress shirt from Target. He left not long after, and I came running out into the living room, thinking he left without me. But his packed bag was still there, so I knew he’d be back. :) And he was. He came back and hug and kissed me goodbye.

Blech. Have I mentioned how I hate sleeping without him? Getting through the days and evenings are fine (though I miss having someone to talk to, even if it’s over the phone when he calls from work), especially since I’m so busy with Alyssa, Ryan, house chores and work. It’s getting to sleep that is so difficult. I remember last year, when he went camping/hunting with his family for a week. I wound up watching TV until 5 and 6am before I would finally drift off.

I think I’ll wrap this post up with a poll… I don’t want to turn this into a political debate, but I’m genuinely curious as to who most of my visitors will be nominating for president. :)

Have you tried something called WP Spam Free? I hear good things about it. It’s at the Plugin Directory and it has a pretty good rating.

Askimet has not let me down yet.

I remember when Carl and I started working oposite shifts. It took me almost a month to start falling a sleep at a decent hour. Durring the day I have work, and then I have the kids to keep me occupied, but once their in bed, I still get lonely. Definitely takes a while to get used too.

  3. I use Akismet as well, it works wonders for me. I don’t like sleeping alone either, I don’t know too many people who actually do.

Akismet is good, but I ended up having a lot of spam even with it. So I added Bad Behavior and I have no problems now. I’ve also disabled pings.

I’ll be very glad next Tuesday, I’ll be able to stop following the news so closely.
