I have a confession

Totally unlike the 24 year old married mother of two that I really am, I slipped back into childhood and slept with a stuffed animal last night.

The stuffed animal is very special to me. Her name is Kitty, and she was a gift from Daniel. He took me to Build-A-Bear wayyyyyyyyyyyy back in the fall of 2001, while he was living in an off-campus apartment building and attending college. I was spending the weekend with him in Pittsburgh (yes, we managed to extract ourselves from his bedroom long enough to go to the mall ;) ) when we went. My stuffed cat comes complete with a pink shirt, pink heart somewhere inside her stuffing, and an audio button in her right arm that meows when pressed.

Obviously, with a lot of travel and six moves, Kitty is looking a little… worn. Her fur is all smushed around and her ears are a bit crumpled. But I adore her.

And as dorky as this sounds, I sprayed the front of her with a some of Dan’s cologne and slept next to her last night. Or should I say this morning, since it was after 5am when I was finally tired enough to go to sleep and not toss and turn.

God, I feel like such a dork for admitting this publicly, even though I know I’m not the only girl to do something like this!

Dude, I’d sleep with my stuffies more if I wasn’t in constant fear that my pup will claim them as his own and tear the stuffing out of them. He’s already (as a wee pup) tore the eye out of an old teddy bear that my late (dead) beloved uncle gave to me. He’s been trying to get at my huge ass winter pooh, but i have it under lock and key. Plus, I caught him a few times running off with my stuffed manatee AND my big ass stuffed frog. The thing is 10 times his size yet he tried to claim it as his own. I do have a security blanket that I sleep with but he knows better to tear that up. Actually, he enjoys sleeping with it too since it has my scent on it. I read somewhere that people get special attachments to things like a baby blanket, stuffie, etc because of your personal aura that attaches itself to that specific object. I just know that I feel so much better when I can snuggle up to my “blankie” and feel more comforted by it.

  2. Angela, it did now. I’m not sure what happened — why one comment was caught by Akismet while the other came through!

My doodle bear, I’ve had since I was around 8 or 9. Still all marked up, because a friend of mine wrote all over it with a permanent marker. I was so angry, but I got over it. It’s not the most soft, or attractive, but it’s comfortable, and still cute. =)

And, I have the same cat, I also made in the past. Mine isn’t dressed up. My grandmother and my Aunt made a teddy bear for me, back in June 2003, when I was in the hospital, which I also sleep with.

Not at all, when Jeremy was away at training for three months I had a pillow wrapped with my favorite t-shirt of his and sprayed the scent he wore on it. It’s normal.

Heck, if I’ve had a bad day, I still sleep with my wrinkle puppy (he’ll be 22 years old in January!), even if Allen IS in the bed!

I definitely sleep with this little plush panda my husband bought me when we were dating everytime he’s gone for training with USMC – and one day deployments. It’s a normal thing, I think. :) You are not alone.

Funny you mentioned this. On Monday my husband was away for the night on a business trip. Usually when he’s gone I’m happy I get to spread out on our bed and make a nice cocoon right in the middle. For some reason this time I could not fall asleep! Even my cat crawled in bed and slept on his side, which she NEVER does. I guess we all missed him that night.

Gosh, I love those build-a-bears. I have a teddy bear (I made it with my ex, but I have retained custody since the breakup) and a monkey my dad made for me.

I sleep with my teddy bear that my grandfather got me when I was six next to my bed. Until about a year ago, it was actually in the bed with me, but I figured out that my dogs were more likely to get to it if they saw it in the bed. Then I just got used to not sleeping with it.

  10. You’re a dork! No really, that cat is too cute. I’d sleep with something Kevin was gone. Actually if he’s at work late and I’m in need of sleep I refuse to hit the bed. I’ll crash on the couch or chair. I can’t sleep in OUR bed without him!!!!

Aww, I love sleeping with stuffed animals. I’m a penguin lover, so I always sleep with my stuffed penguins. Or at least have them plopped somewhere on my bed at all times, even if I’m not cuddling them haha. And I love Build-a-Bear! I haven’t bought one for myself in recent years, but Tyler has gotten several since he’s been born. In 2001 my boyfriend got me a Koala bear for Christmas (a few months before we started dating, thats how I found out he liked me hehe), in 02 my mom got me the floppy bunny for Easter, and for Christmas 03 my bf got me the pink poodle they had for Christmas that year and let me dress it up real cute. I love going in that store and going through all of the silly steps making them. It makes me feel like a kid again lol!

I constantly sleep with a Bear Factory bear that Chris made me in my bed, smelling of his aftershave. When I wake up during the night sometimes I forget that it’s the bear in my bed and not him because I can smell him, which is a bit disappointing.

I sleep with a body pillow whenever my husbands away. It makes it feel like there’s someone there next to me and I can cuddle up with it. I think it’s a pretty normal thing to do.
