Uh oh, better get Maaco

Has anyone ever used Maaco’s collision repair and painting services? I’m probably going to contact a local Maaco and take the Hyundai there for an estimate on how much it will cost to fix the damage:

Any idea of how much something like that might cost to get fixed? I know damn well it’ll be top dollar if I go to the dealership, but I will go over there to get a quote anyway, just so I know what my options are.

Right now I’m slacking working on getting two writing projects done. I got a quote from Pep Boys for $491, which will cover new tires, the installation of them, the discard of the old tires (assuming we keep the donut, do we get a discount? And speaking of donuts, someone pass the new diet pills!), and lifetime rotations and balances). It’s going to take ALL of our remaining Christmas money, but hey, you do what you’ve got to do.

But next I want to get the car repaired, ASAP. I want to weep every time I picture the side of the car in my head.

  1. I would be really mad too. I would find the asshole who did this and maybe beat the money out of him. :cynical:

  2. Yeah that’s pretty shitty. I’d be upset. Isn’t this a fairly new car as well?

  3. It’s a 2005 Hyundai Sonata. We’ve had it since July of 2005. :(

  4. I wish I knew about Maco. We had an issue with our Honda Pilot – some scratches, not as severe as your poor car but it needed to be fixed. A local body shop quoted us at over $700!! We were going to look into Maco when hubby to the car to the dealership for an oil change. They saw the damage and fixed it for us, for FREE. I really love Honda!

Best of luck to you :cute:

Personally I’d just get it painted and the one missing edge piece replaced because the dings seriously don’t look too bad. Unless you’re concerned about turnaround… I also don’t care much about the look of my car so I might be way off base. What happened to the other tire? Is it just the one?

Ouch… I hope you can get it fixed at the best rate possible. I bet it’ll look as good as new once everything gets sorted out. =)

That stinks but overall, the damage isn’t TOO bad. I asked the mechanic boyfriend what he thought about Maaco and he said, you get what you pay for when it comes to body work. Which, for me, has been true. I had a small independent body shop repair the rear of my Hyundai after it’s first accident for rather cheap and you can tell – the trunk lid doesn’t line up, the color is slightly off and the paint is bubbling. When I had my front end repaired about two years later, I went to the dealership and they did a much better job. IMO, good body work is hard to find and the price is usually worth it.

Hope things get better. I hate that my car’s been in accident – you can fix it all you want but it never feels the same.

The window on my car was stuck in the door and Pep Boys quoted it for $250 more than what it cost to get fixed at the dealership. Definitely ask around!

Tirerack.com has tires for that make and model with 4.5 out of 5 star ratings for $276 for 4 plus shipping which is usually very reasonable. Then most tire shops only charge $10 per tire to mount. That’s the only place I ever get tires from because if I buy locally they always want to give me the tires that came with the car that cost a hell of a lot more and have horrible reviews.

Might save you a little bit of money for Christmas.

it really doesn’t look that bad. most of those scratches i’d assume they could just paint over, and they would ‘panel beat’ out the dents (yeah, i don’t know much about cars, heh). i guess what i mean is it’s not like you’ll need to get a whole new door. it’s important to fix up scratches since it can make the car rust which results in more damage. hopefully if you shop around you can find a good deal. car stuff is way too expensive >.>

i might be missing something, but why do you need to get four new tyres if only one is flat? usually you can just get two and get them to put the best of the old tyres on… is it the back? and the new ones go on the front.

i’ve been driving around with a dented bumper for about two years since i accidentally rear-ended a huge truck. i was running late for my new job and trying to read a map while i drove… but my car has a plastic bumper so i just left it since it won’t rust. it’s on the future list, heh.
