I have a preschooler.

Alyssa started preschool yesterday. I actually wanted to start her back in September, but with all the family/mother/brothers/money drama, I kept putting it off, and before I knew it Christmas was just around the corner, and I thought it would be better to wait until after the rush of the holidays.

Anyway, she started yesterday, and she was more than ready and happy about it. She has been talking about schools and school buses for several weeks, and has started writing her name and the names of family members, so it was past time I got her enrolled. :) She goes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:15am until 11:45am. She’ll continue preschool until the fall of 2010, when she’ll be eligible for kindergarten!

I’m loving the fact that the preschool is right down the road. I think it’s 1.1 miles, if that. Around here, that’s amazing, especially when you consider that the nearest gas station is over four miles away, and the closest grocery store is almost five. Last night Dan and I made a midnight to run Wawa for subs (Jason was here, so we were both able to go out), and it was exactly 7.2 miles from the parking spot we were in to our driveway. Crazy. But it’s country roads and country driving, which means speed limits ranging from 35mph to 55mph. Unless there’s a lost tourist or an Amish buggy to deal with, you can get from point A to point B in fifteen minutes or less. Sweet!

Tonight Dan, Jason and I are going to the Philadelphia Twestival. We’re dorks, I know. But hey, being down in the Philadelphia area means hitting up Nifty Fifty’s on the way back! :D

The Twestival should definitely be fun. There are raffles, a Rockband tournament that Dan entered, and food and drinks, of course. And plenty of Twitter-happy socializing. I think I’ll take my laptop, but I’ll leave it in the car until I know for sure if there’s wifi and such. And of course, I’ll have my cell phone and camera along, and I’ll be posting updates to Twitter. :)

Have a good night everyone!

  1. How cool. Kids can’t go to pre-school here unless there is something wrong with them. Like Jordan. He was 3 when he went but he also has mental problems. Lily is going to start head start until she turns 4, then off to pre-school. You have to be 4 to start here. All my childrens birthdays are late in the year and I hate that.

Congratulations Alyssa! That must be so exciting for her!

Hope you have fun at the festival, and good luck to Dan in the Rock Band competition! I know my 8-year old cousin can school me on the drums in that game

  4. Lindsey that’s just messed up. That goes to show part of what is wrong with the entire state of Kentucky that they do that type of crap. I guess you can do preschool here anytime. We chose one down the road in our town at a church and it was a daycare/preschool. I think Sydney was 3 when she started and did the same M,W, and F routine as Alyssa will do. Although ours was considerably earlier in the morning which blows.

It’ll be excellent for her to socialize with the other kidlets.

Congrats Miss A! I remember finding your site when you were pregnant with her-I don’t even think you & daniel had gotten married at that stage.Time flies doesn’t it?
I’m not from the US,so I’m unsure what preschool is -is it like nursery ?My oldest is 3 and a bit-He turns 4 at the end of June then starts Year 1 in September! we didn’t send him to nursery/playschool because he starts at 4.
My youngest won’t start till 5 because he was born earlier in the year
Have a good time at the festival!

  6. She is growing up so fast, aww. That’s good she’s excited about it and it will give you a little break each day to spend exclusive time with Ryan I’d imagine. I’m sure he enjoys it too. Enjoy twestival!

Hope you had fun at the Philadelphia Twestival. That sounds like it was a lot of fun. Too bad I couldn’t go. :P

That’s so awesome that Alyssa actually wanted to go to preschool. When I was that age I remember I would scream and cry and as my mom puts it today, I made her feel horrible for leaving me. But I was a shy child and very attached to my mom! ;)

The picture is so cute! Has she made any friends yet?

I love her backpack. :) I remember preschool was always fun when I got to go home and show off what I made in ‘class’ that day. You’re going to end up with a lot more artwork than you already have! ;)

  13. I headed up to the Vancouver Twestival (YVRTwestival) tonight, it was a blast! I just wish I took more pictures! As there was over 250 people at mine, but no Rock Band tournament though.. only a huge tv with a live twitter feed! It was fun posting witty messages up on it. :)

That is so awesome that Alyssa is in Preschool. How did her first day go?

Wow you have to be 6 to go in to Kindergarten?! Around here the child must have turned 5 years of age by December 31st of the same year of entering. My daughter goes in to Kindergarten in Sept. Scary. I’ll have two kids in that school.. I just hope they put her in Morning classes so her and her brother can ride the bus together and he can help her around the school.

  15. @Klumsi: It’s 5 here, too, but the cut-off for the birthday is in September. Since her birthday is in October, we have to wait a year. :(

That’s too bad, she is obviously more than ready for a school setting.

  17. @Klumsi: Definitely! She went today and LOVED it. She’s bummed that she has to wait two days until she can go again.

She looks so READY! How adorable. I remember my daughter’s first day of preschool…and then bam! before you know it it’s elementary school. Sniff Sniff. :(

  19. I think here in Ky you have to be 5 by August 31st? And school in early August. HA! I hate it.

    God, I LOVE NIFTY FIFTY’S!!

I was in the same situation as Alyssa… born Oct 3rd and the cutoff in PA was still September (hasn’t changed in 16 years!) so I was always WAY older than the rest of my class.

  21. Hope you had fun last night. I know Aidan and I did at ours :)

Whoa time has flown by can’t believe she is in school now

Awww… I remember, back when I started to read your blog, Alyssa was a baby, you were pregnant with Ryan… and now, Alyssa’s starting preschool and and and… where has the time flown? o_O’
