I’m just a little bit annoyed with the local appliance store I called back at the end of February to come out and fix my washer. I chose them because my mom had good luck with them in the past, and because they’re one of the few local appliance repair companies. Well, it was on February 25th that the repair guy came out, and diagnosed my washer’s very loud/rattling agitation/spin cycles as being caused by the washer being unbalanced. The washer itself was unbalanced because the company that installed our washer and dryer back in March of 2007 did not bolt it properly to the pedestal drawer that it rests on. Two bolts loosened up, which offset the balance of the heavy-ass washer, which in turn threw the pulley off balance.
Well, that diagnosis was correct, but what the experienced repair guy failed to diagnose was that the belt that was on the pulley showed a hell of a lot more than “a tiny bit” of wear and tear, and the pulley itself is also wrecked. Dan and I knew that the belt had broke, since we heard it and saw fragments of it on Saturday night, but we had no idea about the pulley being messed up. The repair guy who came out yesterday found that out when he was about to install the new belt, and decided to check out the pulley, too.
So, my washer is still out of service. The repair guy apologized yet again for the incompetence of the previous guy who was out, and promised to get the pulley ordered overnight. He’s coming back out on Friday morning to fix my washer once and for all. Gee, is this like one of those light bulb jokes? How many repair men does it take to fix a washer? Though the big difference here is that light bulbs are cheap. A pulley is not. I’m looking at $67 for the pulley, probably $10 for the belt, and $20 for every fifteen minutes of labor.
In the meantime, the laundry is really starting to build up. Thank god I did up the kids’ clothing last week, so they’re all set. But I have sheets from Ryan’s room, a pail full of cloth diapers, another pail full of diaper covers, at least two* loads of dark clothes, two loads of light clothes and a small load of whites. I also need to wash our quilt and Alyssa’s quilt again, because Leah got on both of them yesterday (she is in heat).
There were three loads of dark clothes, but I got together the stuff that we *really* need right now (jeans for me, a few shirts for Dan), and Dan took them down to the laundromat. Blah, how inconvenient! And expensive. He’ll probably pay $2 just to wash the load of clothes. But at least we’ll save on the cost of drying them. ;) My dryer is in perfect order, so he’s just going to bring the bag of wet clothes right back home, and we’ll get them in the dryer right away.
I’ve been trying to get a lot of work done this week, since I have a nice little repair bill staring me in the face. I’m also shopping around for a new collar for Leah. I’m not thrilled with the boring designs the pet stores have, so I turned to Etsy. I am definitely getting the candy stripes collar, and I’m now deciding between the flower princess collar and a little birdie collar. I’m leaning more towards the birdie collar. Oh, and because I’m a dork, I’m getting matching leashes for the two colors that I’ll be ordering.
Alyssa is deviling to go to the movies again (she really loved Wall-E!), but I’m not seeing any kid-friendly movies that are playing right now? The closest thing I’ve found is Hotel for Dogs. Am I missing something? Or are there just no animated movies playing right now?

You would think that repair company would cut you a deal for the labor, since the last guy should’ve fixed the problem when he was there. Now someone else is having to take it back apart and fix it the right way…I assume that takes some time. I’d argue for a discount. BTW, I like the flower princess collar for Leah!
These might be old news for you in the US, but here we have Bolt and Madagascar 2 playing in addition to Hotel for Dogs. There’s also a French one called Dragon Hunters on its way in.
And you probably know this already, but beware of Etsy! It has a way of sucking money out of you (in exchange for pretty, lovely items).
Wow, that’s crazy about the washer. And yeah, they really rip you on the cost of washing. Here in my apartment it costs 1.75 for washing and 1.00 for drying. The laundromat costs 25 cents for drying but that only buys nine minutes.
Ugh.
I really do like having it all done at once though. The candy stripes collar is awesome!
Sydney just saw hotel for dogs and she loved it. The only other one I could find around here was Madagascar 2 and Bolt.
So they charge $20.00 per every 15 minutes of labor? Wow, I’m in the wrong business. I love having a husband that can fix EVERYTHING. It has saved me tons of money in the past 10 years.
I hope your washer is fixed soon. I’m also glad my dad/Randy combined pretty much fix everything mechanical so we don’t have repair bills to worry about. I hate laundry mats, ick. So expensive to do a load of clothing.
Thumbelina starts this weekend. Or there’s the Jonas Concert.. thing, if you can stomach that.
Shouldn’t you be getting a discount on labor or something because they messed up? It might be worth a try if you haven’t. Afterall, you have been suffering with dirty clothes and having to use a laundromat ($$$).
Also, they do make cute little diapers for dogs that you could get for Leah. That might make life quite a bit easier, as the discharge can last for a month. TMI, I know, but it should go from blood-colored to straw-colored or clear and then it should be over soon after that. She might last longer or shorter, though, since it’s her first heat.
I have to agree with the comment above-Shouldn’t you be entitled to a discount because it was on the advice of their employee that this happened ? Thats a bit rich on their part to expect you to cough of the all the cash-not to mention the inconvenience because of his incompetence??
As for the movies -my almost 4 year has just seen Bolt -he loved it !! He’s also discovered Pixars’ Cars for the first time last week. He’s watched it 3 times already! Kerchannnng! lol
Go take her to see Coraline!!!!!
It’s 3D and super cute!
Wall-E is one of the best movies in the long period of time. It is interesting for adults and children, in my family it is almost adored by everyone! Downlaod the movie from rapidshare
