But Alyssa did a good job at making me out to be one last Friday night! She and I were on our way to the mall, and yes I totally admit to putting on the Twilight soundtrack on my iPod. Alyssa asked what the name of one of the songs was. It was Go All the Way (Into the Twilight). She was rather amused by the word twilight, and kept repeating it like a parrot in the car. This continued as we got to the mall, parked and walked towards the entrance. We walk right by a group of pre-teens and teens as Alyssa is dancing and twirling about chanting, “Twilight! Twilight! Twilight!” and I just know from the way those pre- and teens looked at us that they thought I was some die-hard Twilight groupie that had been shrieking and jumping about over the DVD release. As if.
…Although when I took my thirteen year old brother out shopping on Saturday (yay for off-campus visits!), one of the first things I picked up was a a copy of Twilight. On Blu-ray. But in my defense, I haven’t even watched it yet. ;)
I’m so looking forward to spring now. I hate the lukewarm temps and the crazy temperature changes (tomorrow, for example, was originally going to be about 58°. Now the forecasted high is 47°!), but at least it’s a little more warmer, and we can take the kids outside more. We were at the park for a few hours yesterday, and Alyssa and Ryan had a blast. We brought Alyssa’s scooter and Ryan’s tricycle, and fruit snacks for both of them, and they went to town. Ryan has come so far in the last year. This time last year he’d be all over the place — off in a field, running towards the driveway (the park we go to faces a driveway and the backs of a few homes), basically everywhere but the playground. Yesterday he was so much better. He tried out the slide, climbed around a bit on the equipment, and even approached a group of older kids and interacted with them for a minute or two (I don’t know what he said because we were too far away to hear). And for the most part, he didn’t go beyond the perimeter of the playground. Now THAT is some major progress!
I’m also looking forward to the summer, because summer means SWIMMING! I’m getting us a membership this year, so we can come and go as we please without the hassle of getting together $6 for each of us (the kids are free). Not that $6 on its own is a lot, but times two people who go several times a week, it can quickly add up to the $160 that a summer season pass will cost.
And then at the end of the summer I will hopefully have something really exciting lined up, so I’m looking forward to that, too.
Not too much has been happening lately. I’ve just been busy with the day to day stuff. Writing, some web design, helping to manage a new website, coming up with a few new designs, visiting with my brothers (my eleven year old brother is now being brought to a local community center for us to visit with him each week. The place is very nice, and we get a large private room with plenty of toys, games and even a television. Ryan does well because of the boundaries, and we can close the door and easily guard it. Plus, it’s nice to visit with my brother without being watched over like we’re a bunch of criminals, which is how it goes at the shelter he is staying at.), etc.
It’s 9:30pm, and Ryan is still up only because he napped a little later today. We switched him to liquid Melatonin a little over a week ago, and the results have been dramatic. He is now ready for bed within 15-30 minutes of taking the Melatonin, and actually goes to sleep when he’s tucked into his bed. Most nights now he’s definitely asleep by 10pm at the very latest, and sleeping until 10am – 10:30am the next morning. This is such a huge improvement over rocking for hours until 2, 3 and even 4am and still popping up by 9am-10am.
Alyssa is in bed, and thank god for that. She woke up this morning on the wrong side of the bed, and was a whiny, grumpy little mess for the entire day. She whined and protested when I took her to school, refused to talk to her teacher when she asked what was wrong, flounced away from me when I tried to hug her goodbye, and then cried when I left. When Dan brought her home from preschool, he informed me that she not only threw a fit when another little girl took her stuffed unicorn home (today was a show and tell day, with the letter U being the focus), but she also stole the apple off of teacher’s desk and ate it. Heh. I admit, I had to snicker just a tiny bit over that. Secretly, of course.
I should do some writing tonight, but I’m opting for a new design for a client’s blog instead. I need to give my fingers a rest. Besides, I have a bunch of shows on the DVR that I want to catch up with, and I can’t watch television and write at the same time, lol.
Tomorrow we’re going to the zoo, so you can expect loads of pictures to be uploaded to Flickr sometime tomorrow night or on Wednesday!

That apple story had me laughing out loud. Only Alyssa would think of that! hahaha
love your site! can i steal your smilies? ;)
I’ve also never heard of a kid stealing and eating the teacher’s apple but I’d probably giggle a bit inside too, haha. I can’t wait for summer AND swimming either. Especially being pregnant, I’m going to be grateful for the $45/yr theme park pass that has a wavepool included. *droolage* Summer NOW damnit.
Haha that’s awesome. I definitely giggled at the apple!!
I have never read any of the twilight books nor have I seen the movie. Everyone says I’m missing out but I can’t bring myself to become interested.
