I couldn’t think of a better blog entry title than the obvious: I went to a Pug meetup yesterday. It is exactly what it sounds like. I found an active Pug owners group at meetup.com several weeks back, and decided to check out one of their meetups. There was originally one on April 11th that I wanted to go to, but since Dan was working that day and it was also raining, I wound up not going. But yesterday Dan had off, and the weather was absolutely gorgeous. So off I went. Yes, I drove an hour and 35 minutes to join 50+ other meetup members and their Pugs.
I didn’t think to do a head count of people or dogs, but I’d say that there were at least 25-30 people that actually came, and probably twice as many dogs. A lot of Pug owners had multiple dogs. I was probably among the minority of owners that probably had just one Pug. But damn, dogs are needy, Pugs are expensive, and I already had three cats when I got Leah — I couldn’t imagine getting a second Pug then, and I really couldn’t imagine getting a second one now!
The meetup was a lot of fun. Leah was on the shy side, but she was still friendly (if a bit timid) when people and other dogs approached her. She mostly hung out with me, which is why I don’t have many photos of her, but plenty of photos of other dogs. It’s not easy to take a photo of a shadow, and a dog at your feet isn’t an easy angle to approach with a camera. But I have plenty of photos of the meetup as a whole, and of some of the other Pugs!
They were all so sweet, and quite endearing and funny with their snorts and snuffles and playful barks.
I know I’m a dork, but it was definitely worth driving an hour and a half each way for the meetup, and I’ve already made plans to attend the next one, which is on May 17th.
P.S. I LOVE the black Pugs. If I were to ever get a second Pug, I would definitely get a black one.

haha, cute!! In that last photo looks like they are secretly plotting world domination :p
The only problem with black pugs is when they start to get gray hairs- not so pretty anymore (in my opinion)! Regardless, I do love all pugs ;).
Glad you had fun at your pug meetup! I personally find them quite boring, but then again only 5 or 6 pugs show up at our towns pug meetups. I went to one about 2 hours away once and there were tons of pugs like at your pug meetup. It’s just too far for me though! Unlike Leah, Hamlet does not stick by me; he makes an effort to sniff every inch of grass and doesn’t care about the other pugs. Haha.
I love this entry! Aww, I wish I could take my dog to a meetup! That looks like so much fun. I am sure Leah loved meeting and playing with other Pugs and it’s such a good place to find a doggie playdate. I always love networking with other dog lovers–I always find out about the cutest stuff.
I’m not going to lie. If I see someone with a cute collar or something, I always stop and ask them where they got it.
Aww, what a great day! Totally worth the drive.
Looked like a good time ! It was a break for you wasn’t it? that’s what matters ! and I’m sure Leah thought it was fun too-I love her expression on the second last photo “Back off Buddy” hehe
OMG that is so cool! I didn’t even know there was such a thing! :D
