Dan’s 27th birthday is next Monday, but I went ahead and gave him his birthday present early, because it was too awesome to hold back on. I got him… a laptop! I worked out some extra work and an advance on some additional work with one of the people I work for, and between that and some other $ I set aside I was able to get Dan a sweet, custom-ordered HP G70t. He was thrilled, to say the least!

So now we both have laptops. Although I’m going to be without one for 7-10 days. Heh. Since having my new laptop (which I guess is not so new, since it’s now seven months old), I’ve really missed having a number pad, and having a larger resolution. This laptop (an HP dv5) only goes up to 1366 x 768, which is pretty cringe-worthy. Well, I was dealing with it, even though it’s a pain for web design and photo processing. But then I was checking out Dan’s new laptop with him… yeah. I’m sure you can imagine where that went.

The good news is, I was able to quickly sell *this* laptop on eBay. It sold on Thursday afternoon, and earlier this evening I placed an order for the HP dv7t. And yes, I got it in white (it’ll match my G1, heh). Drool.

Doing my freelance work on my desktop for the next week/week and a half is going to be pretty crappy. The regular desktop keyboard is so much harder on my hands. It’s not something you think about (the sensitivity of a laptop keyboard and how lightly you have to tap its keys vs. the dense, harder keys of a desktop keyboard that require more pressure to depress), until you’re writing thousands of words per day. Then you feel it!

Maybe Dan will be nice enough to let me borrow his laptop to do work on while he’s at work. ;)

  1. Laptop is awesome :D If you want a larger screen you could always hook up monitor to your laptop, that’s what I plan on doing. Also creates a larger work space or can be used as the actual screen, it comes in handy! I’ve had my laptop almost 2 years now and I LOVE my macbook pro, a desktop is nice but I do agree the keyboards are so much lighter and I don’t know I just like it.

  2. Your one hell of a wife to get him a great gift like that. Now he better be planning on getting you something extra special for your next birthday!

Eeehehehehe I’m excited for him! You think your resolution is bad… try working on a netbook all the time, lmao.

Pretty awesome b-day present! :) My laptop only goes to 1280X800, but that’s enough for me. LOL

  5. That is such a great birthday present! I hope that he enjoys it a lot!

Oh, and happy early birthday to Dan!

New computers all around! I just got a new laptop about a month ago. Haha.

As for the keyboard thing, I’m pretty beastly when it comes to typing, so the only difference in laptop/desktop keyboards for me is the key spacing.
